As many of you may know, I have two children with my youngest only being 4 years old. He has really impressed me by coming out of nappies during the night and not once having an accident, well as long as you don’t count the sleep tiddling incident last week, which is half the reason I am reviewing this particular product!
My bathroom is situated downstairs, and I really don’t like the idea of my son wandering through the house in the middle of the night, he would be in the fridge after chocolate!
This being the case my son has a potty in his room incase of nightime emergencies! Up until recently I just assumed my son sat on his potty the way he did on the toilet (until daddy showed him the manly way to pee!), so now I have started getting a suspect looking patch around the perimeter of the potty….just like daddy! Lol!
After the weather started getting warmer, and even though I scrub the carpet every time it happens with detergent, when the room gets warm the smell increases and it does tend to become a little acrid and takes your breath a little.
I knew there were a few products on the market for disguising the smell, I tried Febreeze but have to say this didn’t cover for very long, so when I spotted this spray and saw the clinching words….”No vac” I purchased straight away.
The product I will now review is - “1001 no vac carpet and upholstery freshener”
The can is white with a blue plastic cap style lid, there were two scents to choose from, if I remember correctly one was a florally scent and the one I choose being called “gentle breeze”. I of course wanted something strong enough to cover the ammonia smell, but not so strong as to hurt Connor’s chest.
The instructions for use are incredibly simple. Point the can upside down, which means nozzle down around 15” above the thing you are spraying, then spray a generous amount of the product onto the area.
The spray comes out like shaving foam, at first, as it sprays out of the can it looks like a fine spray with the foam appearing as soon as it hit’s the area, and then going on to doubling in volume.
You then simply leave to dry, which again is quick and fast acting, with the area usually being dry to the touch within minutes, this is due to the spray being so fine.
The smell is very pleasant. It actually reminds me of a fresh cotton smell, or like how your new furniture would smell, fresh from the manufacturers! This smell lasts a good couple of days and once the initial scent of the product goes, the previous smell doesn’t suddenly come back, this too has been removed, this is due to the foam not only masking the smell but effectively removing it from the carpet or upholstery fibres.
This is a fantastic product to have knocking around the house, I have a young family that seem to follow me from room to room creating chaos in all areas that I have previously cleaned, I use this on my settee, the kids carpets and the mattresses, this not only removes smells but adds a lovely fresh smell in the rooms.
This has in my house replaced my beloved febreeze , though I have to say it doesn’t go as far as the aforementioned spray, but in scent terms lasts twice as long.
I would say that in a standard bedroom, this would quite happily last at least three applications of the carpet, mattress and also a cheeky spray on the curtains, for added freshness!
Pricewise this product is available around the £2.00 mark, as I mentioned earlier there was this one and a flowery scented one available at my local Asda, though on the can it states that there is also one called “spring rain” I am so getting that one next!
