1001 Shampoo for Carpets & Upholstery

When viewed my current house with my son when my husband and I split up I was quite impressed with the magnolia walls and cream coloured carpet throughout the house…..then I moved in and realised that with a six year old, a dog and other visitors it wasn’t exactly practical!

A few months ago my sister brought her house rabbit down to my house because we were all having tea at my house and she thought the rabbit would like to accompany us! He was quite good for the most part but then he decided to have a wee on the carpet and of course we cleaned it up straight away but the morning after there was a big brown coloured stain in the area he had weed which is what seems to happen randomly! Anyway, I knew I needed some kind of carpet shampoo to clear it up and so I looked in poundland and spotted 1001 foaming carpet shampoo which was obviously on sale for just a pound and so I thought I would give it a go.

The product stands out on the shelves in the shop because it comes in a bright yellow plastic bottle with a dark blue lid. It features a label with the product name and a picture of a hand cleaning an already very clean looking cream carpet (!) and tells us that it is suitable for large areas of carpets and upholstery and will attack ground in dirt and stains.

I followed the instructions on the back of the bottle and firstly vacuumed all of my carpet and then I mixed one part shampoo with two parts water before mixing it up so that it became frothy. I then took a sponge pan cleaner and dipped it in to the water taking care not to over wet it and then rubbed it in to the soiled area. As I rubbed lots of white coloured suds came up on the floor and so I couldn’t really see the stain any more but I made sure I scrubbed for a little while in the hope that I was removing the stain from the carpet. I left the area to dry and then vacuumed my carpet again.

I have to say that I was very impressed with how this product took the stain away from my carpet in my lounge. Since I have also used the product to remove a nice orange stain on my bedroom carpet where my dog decided to treat me to some vomit (what is it with everything being orange coloured?!) and it worked well there too. The stains were removed off the carpet and this is all that I can expect from this product. I do have some other dirty marks on the floor which have been there since I moved in but to be honest I do struggle to get down on my knees at the moment after my injury and so I cannot get down to give it a proper scrubbing so for now I will leave them there.

Of course with this kind of product you do need to make sure that you keep it well out of the reach of children and you are also advised to do a colour test on a small area before use…now I didn’t do this but only because I was cleaning cream coloured carpets. I think had I been cleaning something dark coloured I would have definitely tested it somewhere inconspicuous as it would have been more noticeable if it had lightened the carpet.

As this product only cost one pound I have to say it is a very good quality and reasonably priced carpet shampoo and one which I recommend.
