I am currently living in a rented house in between the sale of my last house and my new house finally being built!!
The house I am renting is lovely, brand new, 3 storey town house, with expensive soft furnishings!! And to make matters worse the carpet is a nice beige colour!!
This is the final week in the house, and we have done really well, the house remains in the condition we found it ........ until!!!
Last night! I am one of the clumsiest people you will ever find, I am forever having a go at "him" for leaving glasses on the floor, worrying they will be knocked over.
We had settled down, yesterday evening to enjoy a nice bottle of red wine!! I had had a go at him for having his glass on the carpet (why else have coffee tables!!!). Two minutes after this, I went to put down the newspaper I had been reading on the coffee table, and what did I do, I knocked over my glass of red wine!!! (by the way, my glasses can hold over half a bottle of red wine!!).
Oh no, the wine didn't just fall nicely, it flew across the room, I had a red wine mess on the carpet which covered about 3 metres long, not to mention half the walls!! Panic set in!!
I rushed down to the local shop, and brought anything and everything, some more kitchen towels, a couple of bottles of cheap white wine (no not for me to drink!!!) and 1001 stain remover!
Having never used this stain remover before, I was very apprehensive about using it, would it bleach the carpet etc!! remember this isn't my house!!!!
***Presentation / Packaging *** The bottle comes in a nice bright yellow, 500ml spray bottle, bright blue label with 1001 written in yellow!!! and a nice blue spray gun applicator. The bottle is ergonomically designed (and trust me I needed it, with continuous pumping to get the foam, aching hands was not on the agenda!!).
***Instructions *** This might sound silly to some, but I actually found the instructions hard to follow, they just didn't quite add up;
"Liquid Spills - Blot stain with kitchen towel to remove excess" Yep I could manage that part easily enough!
Then applying and rubbing, and vacuuming when dry, we couldn['t decide if it needed to be left before rubbing, how much to apply, and how long before it dried! Neither of us are thick, but in a moment of panic, we needed very basic step by step instructions, we only had one chance!
***Usage *** We used over half a bottle, I think this was more to do with us panicking than the need too!! (we had already used 2 bottles of white wine on it, and a tub of salt!!). We rubbed the foam into the stain, it was amazing how the phone started to turn from a white bubble to a pinkish bubble, which re-assured us that the stain was actually coming out.
The smell of the stain remover is actually very pleasant! doesn't have a chemical smell at all, much more like a fabric softener. A lot of foam was created (but I think this was more to do with how much we used!).
***Conclusion *** The stain remover has totally removed the red wine from the carpet (carpet still a little wet) but we are struggling to see where the red wine spill was.
It is a good quality carpet, but from all the scrubbing we did, there is no effect of bleaching or wear on the fibres! the carpet looks the same as the rest of it!!
I do not know what it is like on dry stains! I never allow them to stay that long.
So for me, this was £2.99 money well spent!!

Thats worth remembering just incase.........I hope by now you are nicely settled in your new home, maybe you would be safer drinking a toast with white wine, Heatherx
