10. Meat Loaf - A Kiss Is a Terrible Thing To Waste
"There's a feast waiting for you and you've never even gotten a taste"
Simple and to the point - you don't even know what you are missing. Quite provocative use of the words feast and taste. Promises more than justa snack... ... more
I think this might be a struggle, as there are so many fantastic lyrics to choose from.
So lets narrow this little task down. What disc's do i have next to me at this time?... And how many does that leave?... Okay, here we go then.
I have opted for some very strange choices, as finding the definitive list of ten would be no fun (and would take far too much time and effort and heartache as some other favourites are cast aside) so count with me as we look through this motley crew of candidates (some of which have already made apparances in my other reviews).
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1. Barenaked Ladies - Aluminum
"You can shine like silver all you want, but you're just Aluminum"
The perfect expression of that false person's face that drives you mad. To be honest from their latestalbum alone I could have chosen six or seven lines for this list, but this line sums up just how I feel on those days when somebody who loves themselves just will not leave you alone.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
2. Blues Traveler - The Mountains Win Again
You know at that precise moment in a relationship when a little voice in your head tells you that it is over and you have to walk away, well Blues Traveler captured this moment in all it's horrifying glory within this song. Beautiful, simple and terrible in it's imagery.
"I pick up my smile, put it in my pocket Hold it for a while, try not to have to drop it. Men are not to cry, so how am I to stop it."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
3. Bon Jovi - If I Was Your Mother
"If I was your mother, would you let me hold your hand?"
Described by the band as a psychotic love song, it desribes the length that an obsession can drive you to - out to the point where you could only be more entwined with this object by actually having given birth!
Scary to the point of nodding agreement, a great song for those dark, beer stained moments of loneliness.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
4. Paul Simon - Call Me Al
There is one line in my life that has always made me laugh, simply because the image it instills in my head is so purely cartoon-like. Any time this song is played you can be sure I will herald this line with a smile and sing it as loud as I damn well like...
"He ducked back down the alley with some roly-poly, little, bat-faced girl."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
5. Kid Creole - Annie I'm Not Your Daddy
Another line that cracks me up. I think social services might have something to say about this guy, and how he treats his child.
"You see if I was in your blood, Then you wouldn't be so ugly."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
6. Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Bug
"Sometimes you're the windshield, Sometimes you're the bug."
Sometimes you are working fine, sometimes you are gonna get hurts, simple metaphor for a simple idea, but how descriptive is that line (written by Mark Knoppfler). I love it.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
7. R.E.M. - Daysleeper
"My nights are coloured headache grey"
Anybody who has walked home from a VERY late night out will understan this description. Even more vivid if you had to face that sun-less world every night.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
8. Trisha Yearwood - In Another's Eyes (Duet with Garth Brooks)
"In another eyes staring back at me I'm afraid that I can't see This picture perfect portrait that they paint of me"
'I'm cheating on someone who adores me' would have been the easiest way to write this, but the image of having to look that person in the eye and try to make believe...
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
9. Del Amitri - Just Like a Man
"I do my best to relieve it In the best way that I know how Just like a man"
A guy has been cheated on... does he drink? fight? have sex?
No, he dies, cries and tells the good lady that it doesn't matter. An ominous line from a song about real feelings.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
10. Meat Loaf - A Kiss Is a Terrible Thing To Waste
"There's a feast waiting for you and you've never even gotten a taste"
Simple and to the point - you don't even know what you are missing. Quite provocative use of the words feast and taste. Promises more than justa snack...
I am open to all sorts of music; though, I prefer the kind that actually has something to say. These are my favorites so far. 10)
First, the question on many people's minds: what is this life for? For many it has become a lifelong journey for an answer. Most likely the end was dubious. After all, such cannot be known here, temporally. I have my convictions, as others have theirs. For all of us, the answer cannot be given or reasoned. So, props to ... ..."What's This Life For?"
Line -
"Hurray for a child that makes it through."
9)
I enjoy a few laughs, just like the next guy. Much like the next artist in my list, I have kind of a sick sense of humor at times. He composed this song (for the sake of comedy, I'm sure) for a dear woman in his life. He was in love with her. According to him, she only had one eye, but that she was…

10. F’ING HELL, IT’S FRED TITMUS – HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT
Containing the name of Fred Titmus (1960s England cricketer) in its title, this song was on the album ‘Back in the DSS’ by eighties indie band Half Man Half Biscuit. Reasonably untalented as musicians, the lyrics more than made up for the band’s shortcomings. The subject matter of songs on this album included Benny Hill’s sidekick – Bob Todd (‘99% of Gargoyles ... ...(‘Busy Little Market Town’).
I got this album when I was sixteen, and I thought it was hilarious:
“Oh Dracula comes from Transylvania
Stevie Nicks talks about kleptomania
Johnny looked out of his bedroom window
And shouted to his mum
‘Fred Titmus’.”

“Soon I'll grow up and I won't even flinch at your name”
We’ve all been there. Loved and lost, and then for some reason have been really scared of ever hearing that persons name again let alone seeing them. This line is quite personal to me, thinking of the way I still react when ... ...yourself ridiculous!” 10. R.E.M. - Nightswimming
“Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse. Still, it's so much clearer.”
R.E.M. songs are full to the brim with meaningful lyrics, so it was hard to find my favorite as I could have filled my top ten with solely their songs. Nightswimming is probably my favorite R.E.M. song though, because of the imagery that the words and the music create together. The images all tangle together as if they ...

Advantages: Rain is cool Disadvantages: Some like it hot
It?s really far too hot to write;
At thirty in the shade
Creative juice evaporates
Like warm flat lemonade.
The sun beats on my windowpane
All I can think about
Is how much cooler I would feel
If it were raining out.
If only it were raining now
The mercury would fall
And all those ops I?ve meant to write,
Why, I would write them all!
