Advantages: Reductions in premiums. Disadvantages: Needs some time and effort!
...1.WHEN YOUR RENEWAL comes in, dont just accept it. Contact on-line insurers, telephone insurers, and your local brokers.
2.CONSIDER CHANGING from comprehensive to third party, fire, and theft if you have an older car.
3.CONSIDER who can drive your car. Young drivers and those with poor accident records will incur heavier premiums.
4.CONSIDER insuring the car in your wifes name. Women owners always attract lower premiums than men!
5.CONSIDER a higher voluntary excess, as this will always lower your premium.
6.ALWAYS park you car in your garage, as this will be more secure, and your premium will fall.
7.IF YOUR CAR IS TAKEN OFF THE ROAD for a period, say through the winter months, tell your insurer to suspend your insurance, and you will get an appropriate refund.
8.ENSURE your car has an alarm and immobiliser. This will reduce your premium...

Advantages: cheap insurance for high powered vehicles Disadvantages: none to my knowledge
...A few yrs ago i decided to save a bit of money and by a fairly nice and fairly high powered motor, after much deliberating decided to by a v6 vauxhall calibra, not realising at the time these were group 17 insurance.
When it came round to insuring almost died when i was getting quotes of 2-3k, luckily i happened to buy a max power magazine to find insurance companies for performance cars.

Advantages: cheap to buy and run, good small car Disadvantages: not big enough for a family car
...Ive owned a Peugeot 106 1.1 independence for almost 2 years now, they are an excellent economy car. As a young driver also the insurance is very good value too, i guess its around insurance group 3-4. It averages around 40mpg on petrol and with the new tax bands just having been introduced you can get cheaper tax than most with the 1.1 model.
As you would expect with any hatchback car, there isnt masses of room for everything, but it comfortably fits 4 adults and theres a split/fold rear seats to fit extra luggage if needed.
Ive had no mechanical problems with my car, and i keep it regularly serviced with no major problems to date....
