Advantages: Nice printer, quick, quality printouts, low purchase price Disadvantages: Expensive to run (long term)
...a permanent presence in the background. I downloaded the an updated driver in the hope that this would solve things. It didn't.
I have e-mailed Lexmark's helpline and am awaiting a reply (other than the automated acknowledgement).
This slight problem spoils what would have been a wonderful purchase for me. The printer isn't cheap to run (approx 4p per page b&w, 9p per page colour) but it's low purchase price and high quality printouts mean it is worth it. If only it hadn't caused such an inconvenient problem with restarting windows. Hopefully, Lexmark will have some useful information for me and I'll let you know if this problem is resolved.
UPDATE.
Lexmark e-mailed me back with a suggestion on how to solve this problem. AS it happened, I'd already solved the problem by reinstalling Windows 98 (don't ask, it was an unpleasant Internet...

...Tired of paying high prices for ink? Tired of
trying to get hold of your printer manufacturer
because the automated trouble shooting doesnt work? Tired of waiting weeks for customer assistance to return your calls/emails?
Well have I got the printer for you! But its not
the lexmark Z42, unfortunately. works great
with Windows environs, but not for long.
the ink cartridges are expensive and leak, they
dont completely empty before jamming, and
customer assistance is almost fraudulent in
their advice! We really wanted this printer to
work out, too. but it hasnt. Dont buy one, even
used. We bought new, and wish we'd paid more
and bought the Canon, frankly.
We attempted many times to resolve the issues,
and the customer service was slow to respond,
and automated in its responses. I even wonder
if they read my complaints or issues...

Advantages: Excellent quality output, relatively high speed printing Disadvantages: Automated head cleaning can be ver annoying during startup
...The Epson 760 is a nice colour printer, very capable of excellent photo output, if the user is knowledgeable about printing and colour matching techniques. It has a few problems with print head clogging, which must be actively monitored by the user in order to prevent wasted photo output. However, its necessary print head cleaning routine is very, very annoying, as it is automated to occur during printer startup. The printer uses an automated print head cleaning routine which occurs at printer startup, or can be started manually. I liken this routine to a cat bathing itself with its tongue, as the procedure is quite drawn-out and tedious (4 minutes or so), making the excellent print times the printer is capable of quite moot. The user will find that the printer's print heads are often clogged, and colour output will suffer horribly...

good:
price, if compared to other available mobos having the 478 socket (which seems to be outdated nowadays).
not-so-good:
** had to buy a new VGA card, DirectX drivers for built-in VGA turned out to be buggy (computer halted on black screen).... more
If your like i was before stuck with a pretty decent socket 478 CPU such as a Pentium 4 2.8 , then this is one of the best motherboards i would recommend to get.
There are lots of great advantages with this motherboard such as the size, its a Micro... more
