At 10 pence a go or 8 pence a go on some contract phones many will notice that it costs a pound to have a small text conference with your mates before going to bed. I normally find it easier to arrange a football match or a trip to town by just sending a message to everyone. So I require being able to send text messages at night and in the day to arrange these matches.

What is that makes text so useful to mobile owners, especially teenagers. Well the fact is that it is easy to use and just sending “Meet u @ the footie courts @ 4” will let the receiver will get all the info they need. This new craze seems to help the day run a bit smoother. To say I use it a lot would be an understatement. I used it last this afternoon in college to ask my mate why he wasn’t in. And in the interest of people needing all their hard earned cash, it will sometimes save money on making a call.
One great perk of text messages will be of use o everybody. There will be a definite decrease of the annoying person at the back of the bus shouting down the phone to his/her mum, a better life for us all.
Here are the other great points of texting instead of talking *******************************************************************
* You can flirt easier, A LOT easier; in fact that’s how I got with my girlfriend (that and my dashing good looks) anyway…
* You can lie very easily, A LOT easier, in fact that’s how I lie to my girlfriend (Damn! I need to shut my mouth) and carrying on…
* I get a “brain frying” sensation whilst on the phone, hummmm! Radiation, luvvly. With texting I can hold the phone away from my sensitive head.
Back to the main point *******************************************************************
In my quest to cut down on money I spend texting I am now on a search of as many SMS sites that allow for FREE, (yes Free) non of that phone us on a £8.50 a minute and get a code. I want quick signup; quick sending of the message (which I will time) and if the message actually gets sent which isn’t common practice these days.
So about the site ******************************************************
I typed in www.2thumbswap.com (which I think means you need 2 thumbs to send a text message) and waited for it to load. On opening the page reminded me of someone I have seen. Errrrm! That’s it! A colourful person as exciting as they come, you know the life and soul of the party, ROY from “Coronation Street”. Grey is splashed all over like what I do with the aftershave before a night out. Anyway apart from that you have the usual likes of SMS and portal sites. Lots (and I mean) lots of advertisements, mainly there to heighten the chance that you accidentally click one, only to be lead into a dark and inescapable, popup free for all. These advertisements help sites to make back the money they have spent getting the SMS services sorted out though and keep the services free.
LOOK AROUND THE SITE ************************
As I took a look around I noticed the site had a good layout and on a sidebar contained all of the available options:
DEVELOPER ZONE – This zone includes tools and tips for those of us wanting to make a WAP site for phone users to visit. If you were good enough you could make a site that got your email and forwarded it to your phone for free. Also here are discussion groups and events, these events will allow you to find out where exhibitions are on new phone technology E.g. WAP, GPRS etc..
WIRELESS DEVICES – includes, Latest Phones, GSM Phones, Accessories and handhelds and a vast range of tips and tricks to try on your handset. These areas also lead me to a site giving a way for you to phone people with your PDA using future plug in hardware technology.
DOWNLOADS – This section has WAP Editors – Don’t know what this is but looks interesting WAP SDKs/IDEs – Another interesting techier section of the site Graphic Converters – If you have software and a data cable, you can use this software to put you picture on your phone. Very good indeed. Add-ons – For Dreamweaver allows for you to make a WAP Phone site and add macromedia video and media. Grooooooooovy baby yeh! Fun stuff – Featured on here is the fabulous Unimobile Application currently one of the biggest and fastest growing companies of the past month allowing for you to send anything to a mobile from your computer over the net via their expanding network. Ring tones and Logos – Obviously you can get some ring tones and logo’s some are free and some require that you pay for them.
COMMUNITY –
Free email – Free email what can I say Message boards – Leave messages and be ignored by everyone (great) Chat – If you have a phone but no friends then just talk to someone you don’t know WAPmeet Classifieds – Cyber geek meet Amy – Amy meet Cyber geek, Come on!!! Geeks need loving too. Newsletters – Sign up to a Newsletter
Signup and free SMS ******************************************************
Once I got to this I noticed a bad thing, they have links to other sites providing free SMS so in fact this site is just a portal to every little thing you’ll need to get. Obviously this meant no need to sign up. This disappointed me but then I realised that this site does have lots of cool features.
The good bit is that they have links to over 1000 free SMS providers so that whatever country you’re in you can still send text messages. This proves useful as sending a text message abroad costs at least 99 pence per message.
The cool features included a Wap phone emulator in the shape of the popular Nokia 7110, this is alright for those who may have checked a WAP site out and got disconnected, and this is cheaper.
A games page to test you on Snake, Snake II and The Space Game (can’t remember the name), Other favourites are also there but I prefer these.
Overall I would recommend a visit to the site, and if you’re disappointed at the opinion then you feel how I did thinking I got a free SMS site.
