Manufacturer's product description
This latest version of 3Com's Fast EtherLink XL network interface card offers several new software and hardware developments. Chief among these are the Parallel Tasking II technology and the DynamicAccess software, both of which bring greater performance and intelligence to the NIC. (Note that this card is also available with a Remote Wake Up Feature.) 3Com's patented Parallel Tasking technology (which came with previous models of the Fast EtherLink XL) revolutionized NIC performance by accelerating the speed at which packets are transferred from the network wire to the NIC. Parallel Tasking II technology, designed specifically for PCI, takes 3Com's NIC performance to the next level by improving the speed that data is passed from the NIC to the host PC. This is achieved by exploiting the latest development in PCI chip and bus design. Formerly, a NIC was limited to transferring data across the PCI bus in a maximum of 64 bytes at a time for one bus master operation. In order for one full 1514-byte packet to be transferred to the host PC, 24 separate bus master operations were required, resulting in an inefficient bus. With Parallel Tasking II performance, the NIC can stream up to a full Ethernet packet over the bus during a bus master operation, greatly increasing the efficiency of the PCI bus. The results are faster throughput and improved system performance, which allows desktop and server applications to perform better. DynamicAccess software turns network interface cards into active network components, enabling a true end-to-end solution in which all devices collaborate to create the most manageable, highest-performing networks possible. DynamicAccess software includes: traffic prioritization, through Class of Service, for giving priority to time-sensitive data to deliver improved performance for multimedia and business-critical applications; distributed RMON (dRMON) SmartAgent software enabling comprehensive, affordable network management, including full RMON support, in switched and high-speed environments; Fast IP software for scaling internetworking performance by minimizing the bottlenecks that routers may cause; and efficient multicast control for expanding bandwidth by automatically filtering unwanted multi-cast traffic before it can flood the LAN.
...as lasting, after the installation and the installation what both rather quickly and simply went, to this day, had never to open my computer because of this card I it works faultlessly to this day.
I use it for my small network, what consists of three computers or if friends come to the gamble to me.
Up till now I didn't as said have any problems with it yet and I think I am also absolutely satisfied with their speed who already needs a 1000 Mbit card at home, then?
So nothing bad gives to report, I have used it for my DSL once a while, too and it worked and harmonized faultlessly also there, I really only can recommend it if spare one extra card, one of the good manufacturer 3COM then.

...I have tried 10 different modems and my USR is the best, PCI modems suck and this USR ISA modem connects faster and never drops me. I can even pick up the phone and puch buttons on the open line... stays connected. I get a 53333KPS v.90 connection everytime, helps i live near the Sprint building for that :) plus, PCI modems seem to conflict with other hardware too easily, they have to have it there way and they freeze my system for a sec or two everytime the modem connects or disconnects....

...Picture the scene. My friends and I (note the good English!) have just finished our A-levels, and have about 3 months free to have some fun. One of your friends parents go away, and he decides to have a party. But this is no normal party, this is a network party!
It may sound a little sad to most people, but it's actually quite a lot of fun. Computer games you see, that's the reason! A lot of the computer game doubters say that they are an anti-social affair, but that could not be further from the truth. Computer games are better when played with or against another person, but unfortunately for us PC gamers the chance to do this is not all that common. The internet does allow you to play against others, but the slow speed of a normal 56K modem limits the type of game you can play, and the speed at which you can play it. The answer lies...
