Manufacturer's product description
Conforming fully to the vendor-independent Fiber Optic Inter-Repeater Link (FOIRL) standard, the LinkBuilder AUI/ Fiber Repeater is most often used to create inter-building links. It offers a convenient means of connecting devices or segments to a fiber-optic backbone using a standard AUI cable, allowing fiber segments of up to 2 kilometers (1.25 miles). The LinkBuilder AUI/Fiber Repeater is available with ST connections and accommodates all popular sizes of optical fiber. It provides the required resilience and immunity to electrical and radio frequency interference. LEDs show collisions, packet reception, partitioning on both the AUI and fiber ports, plus power and fiber RX Link OK indication.

Advantages: Cheap, reliable and you get some cable Disadvantages: Doesn't support 100mbit speeds, but at this cost you can't really moan
...You can get one of these combo network cards for around £15 now! That’s £15 pounds for a stable, reliable and long lasting card! Most network cards seem to give up the ghost after a year but this one is still going. There are several versions of the card available and one will suit your needs. There’s the 1280T which only has the telephone style connector, the 1280BT which adds the coaxial BNC connector and finally the 1280BTA which adds the AUI or thick coaxial connector. To top it all off you get a driver disk that supports loads of operating systems, a T-Piece and a bit of coaxial cable – an all round great deal!...

Advantages: Very Cheap, with lots of features Disadvantages: Will help with CCNA, but may stuggle with CCNP
...I bought one of these routers off ebay to help with my upcoming (Cisco) CCNA exam.
These are by no means cutting edge routers, and are obsolete now as they only support 10Mbps via their AUI (lan) port and support a limited amount of protocols.
The router itself has one AUI port, which when used with a transceiver can connect to either another router or a switch (at 10Mbps); 2 serial ports which can be configured with a routing protocol such as frame relay to connect to another switch or ISP data terminal equipment, a console port to configure the router itself, and an AUX port for modem connection.
Though well past it's sell by date, the switch is perfect to get to grips with Ciscos IOS (internetwork Operating System) and set up simple routed networks in conjuction with other routers and switches.
One thing to be aware of when buying one...
