Manufacturer's product description
The 3Com ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router combines an ADSL modem, router, 802.11g wireless access point, four-port switch, and firewall to enable up to 253 total (128 wireless) users to economically and securely share a single ADSL connection. The high-speed routing engine easily handles large data transfers and Internet downloads, including those from multimedia applications. The 11g ADSL router provides a high-speed, 54 Mbps wireless connection for users with 802.11g-equipped PCs and laptops. It is also backward-compatible with 802.11b wireless LAN equipment, preserving existing network investments. And the Wi-Fi compatible router interoperates with Wi-Fi-certified products from other vendors. Advanced wireless security and multiple firewall features offer one of the industry's strongest levels of protection for the network. To shield wireless connections, the 11g gateway router implements 256-bit WPA encryption for maximum security, along with 40/64- & 128-bit WEP encryption for legacy clients. Stateful packet inspection firewall, hacker pattern detection, URL filtering, and other security features help protect the entire network from attacks and other Internet security risks. This router comes with OfficeConnect Wireless 11g PC Card. With the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g PC Card, notebook users can access network resources, the Internet, and e-mail at speeds up to 54 Mbps and at distances up to 100 meters (328 feet). That's almost five times the speed of existing 802.11b wireless products, which makes this product ideal for small offices that work with demanding audio, video, and multimedia applications. The 11g PC card works with the 3Com Wireless 11g Access Point to create a powerful, high-speed all-wireless network in minutes. The 11g products are compatible with 11b products, so both 11b and 11g clients can reside on the same network. This flexibility preserves your network investment and allows you to upgrade or scale your network according to your budget and time frame. Setup and operation are extraordinarily easy, making these products great choices for first-time wireless users. Like all award-winning OfficeConnect products, the 11g PC card delivers reliability features such as dynamic rate shifting, which automatically matches the best connection speed to room conditions so connections stay clear and open. The PC card also employs advanced 256-bit WPA (Wireless Protected Access) encryption as well as 40/64- and 128-bit shared-key WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) encryption to help protect data on the wireless LAN. And because it is Wi-Fi certified, the PC card should work seamlessly with Wi-Fi certified products from other vendors.
Advantages: Good price, reliable, lifetime warranty, easy setup Disadvantages: No way to add an external antenna
...I bought the 3Comrouter after having countless problems with my previous router (Linksys WAG354G *shudder*).
The set-up is suprisingly easy to be honest, especially with the step-by-step instruction booklet (only a few pages long, and in 5 or 6 languages).
All that was needed was to plug in the ADSL filter (into the landline socket), connect the line to the back of the router, plug in the power supply and connect the ethernet cable (the large-ish square one) to the pc and router respectively. Then all that's left is to run the, very easy, set-up wizard. If my memory serves me right it's accessed by going to http://192.168.1.1 from your internet browser.
The basic information needed is time/date settings, ISP username/password settings, a password for the WiFi (or use the automatically generated one) and a few other bits and bobs...

Advantages: You can access the internet from anywhere in the house (or garden) Disadvantages: Hard to set up.
...I have been in trouble this past couple of months. I discovered Ciao, and want to spend loads of time here. My husband wants me to spend time with him, understandably. He likes watching car programmes on the television, and I don’t. The solution we came up with was a WirelessRouter for my laptop.
Having looked around, and found no product reviews on wirelessrouters, we took our chances on this. We searched around for a good price.
We placed an order from ebuyer for a 3COMOfficeConnectADSLWireless11gFirewallRouter, with a 3COMOfficeConnectWireless11gPCCard. The cards on their own cost around £34 if you search the net.
If ever they add the correct product to the category, I will write one on the Router itself, but for now, I get to tell you about my experience with the card.
This review assumes that you already have...

Advantages: East set up - the best PLUG & PLAY device I have ever come across - true to it's word!, Great coverage, Great protection of the wireless network Disadvantages: Not linked to the mother computer via USB - you must have a LAN card installed
...in about 10 minutes. I at present have had no need to contact technical support, but all of the numbers are provided clearly in amongst the documentation.
Set up:
After plugging in the ADSL line, the power cable, and the LAN line that is connected to your computer (Note - you must have a LAN card installed for the device to work), you just turn on the computer, and everything is up and running - there is not even a driver to be installed. You just follow the instructions in the manual, get onto the internet, follow the easy on screen instructions, and you're away! All of this takes under 10 minutes.
Wireless Coverage:
The coverage provided by the modem/router is fantastic. In my house, where some of the walls are stone, and well over 1m thick, coverage is still optimal (54 mps per second). Interuptions to coverage are very rare - I...

I bought this router from PC World for £29.99 about 3 months ago. (I also bought a new computer from PC World - so the manager used her discretion and reduced it from £44.99)
When I first plugged it up to the computer, I found that I could use my... more
This is by far the best router i have owned and used ( compared to an ordinary wired router and a belkin and also a netgear wireless router).
It is very easy to set up this router, infact i did nothing. plugged it in, hooked up all the connections,... more
This is a wireless network router whih you can use with either a cable modem or a DSL modem. I've owned mine for ages - it orginally cost me £76 and, though that's quite a lot compared to some routers, this one is really powerful and I guess you get what more
