I had get one of the wireless adapters for my laptop. I could either go for the pcmia slot, or the usb slot. I opted for the usb version because i could then use it other desktop computers as well. I bought this one for 15 quid and didn't research how good it is before. I had to install the driver and software and then plug it in... and that's it. the internet was working. I tried it with a zoom router and with a belkin router. I use it on the first floor and the access point is in the ground floor . The signal strenght is 60(the software shows all the details of the link quality) but sometimes it flactuates with no obvious reasons. Sometimes the connection drops; when the signal strenght goes down to 40.
After a long use, the adaptor gets hot, and cannot say whether it is common or not. The fact that it bulges out from the outside is quite irritating. I have to be carefull when using the laptop on the bed. Overall, it is a very good cheap solution for wireless connectivity.
