I have tried 10 different modems and my USR is the best, PCI modems suck and this USR ISA modem connects faster and never drops me. I can even pick up the phone and puch buttons on the open line... stays connected. I get a 53333KPS v.90 connection everytime, helps i live near the Sprint building for that :) plus, PCI modems seem to conflict with other hardware too easily, they have to have it there way and they freeze my system for a sec or two everytime ...

Advantages: Fast and reliable connections, excellent support, loads of free software. Disadvantages: No volume control actually on the modem although this can be adjusted in Windows.
...for around 6 months now and I've never had a 'phantom' disconnection. Being the market leader in modems, it is also easy to get updates for the modem to ensure the best performance. You also get some very good FREE software with the modem, especially 3COM modem manager. ...

Advantages: Reliable, effective and has modem manager software Disadvantages: A touch expensive
This is the second US Robotics (now 3Com) modem I have bought. It is excellent. Performing 100% with utter reliability. An added bonus is the Modem Manager software that allows diagnostics of the connection to be displayed. So, it is possible to determine the connect speed, and watch the transmit and receive rates during actual use. A log is maintained so that a history of previous connections can be examined. The unit is compact and sits on top ... ...watching the LEDs glitter as data is transmitted. Seriously though, an external modem is a better bet that internal. At least the device can be seen to wrok. All the necessary cables are supplied and the installation instructions are simple. So there can be no easier or effective way to connect online. ...

...when I purchased my new 3com modem one day. It had all the features I wanted and more. It comes in a white or pc beige colour and is neat and compact. I bought this modem specifically because the one I had before was on nearly 2 days flat and burnt out. I have always thought 3com are a good company to trust when buying modems and it has proven to give me pleasant speeds on the interenet in comparison to cheaper versions which barely manage 41k.
