The Voodoo 5 and Voodoo 4 cards were the last gasp of 3Dfx, and hence the fastest cards to support Glide natively. They introduced a number of features, such as FSAA, and implemented them... more

Advantages Advantages PCI (an advantage for me anyway)

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Huge!

I bought the PCI version of this graphics card because I somehow managed to damage the AGP slot on my computer. Actually, not `somehow` - I know it was the torch I dropped on the thing that did it! I`ve since bought a new motherboard, but I decided to keep the PCI card because I`m very impressed with it`s performance. The card itself is massive, and it has two fans on it. It actually requires power from the power supply through the leads that you usually use to power your hard drive. Something I`m not used to, and made me panic when I forgot to plug the thing in and it didn`t work. Doh :-) The ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good card.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not making the PCI slot anymore

Is it true that the 3Dfx range for the PCI slot is coming to an end? I really hope not. I do know that a lot of older machines are going to come to a grinding halt when upgrading without their technology. At the moment, Voodoo cards are made in two type of of slot fitting. One being the older PCI fitting that nearly everyone has and some people have the newer AGP slot fitting. AGP technology is meant to be vastly improved and the PCI slot fitting cards are becoming outdated. Basically because the newer, high performance cards are just wasted on older type machines. The Voodoo 5500 is one such ... more

Advantages Advantages Good card but not the best

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very pricey

If your considering purchasing a 3D graphics card for you PC in the near future then it may be wise to think again. One of the main players in the Graphics card market 3DFX seems to have run into financial difficulties, after over expanding it’s range of high-powered graphics cards. The 3DFX Voodoo 3, 4 and 5 graphics cards seem to have under preferred and not does as well as the company had expected. There was an initial high demand for the cards after the massive success of the Original Voodoo 1 card which revolutionised PC gaming and the astonishing power of the Voodoo2 (At the time) ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap pci option.

Disadvantages Disadvantages No hardware T&L, expensive, problems fitting card in most cases, poor price-performance relationship.

Don't even think of buying a 3dfx voodoo 4500/5000 (or 6000, not released in uk yet, as far as I know). Wondering why? Well here goes... 3dfx may have revolutionised the 3d gaming world with the introduction of the original voodoo chipset. Nothing could come even close to it's slick polygon crunching speed. The voodoo2 chipset was also a hard act to follow in it's time with all other graphics card manufacturers tailing behind in the speed steaks. It was when Nvidia released its original TNT chipset that 3dfx started to get worried. Allmost equal price and performance to that of the voodoo2 ... more

Advantages Advantages FSAA is very usefull, quite fast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very expensive

The voodoo 5 5500 an eagerly awaited card my many gamers accross the world, so is it any good? well benchmarks show that it certainly has potential in the speed market with its multiple processor layout, but does it have the same features as before or are we going to have some newer ones. Well here it is, this is what we can expect to see from the latest release of 3Dfx. First things first we have to mention what 3Dfx is shouting about that is FCAA (full screen Anti-Aliasing) this is a technology that allows the graphics card to perform smoothing of on screen images before they are displayed ... more
