When I first went to UK as a student, I was looking at the most widely known networks to buy a mobile number. I initially joined Vodafone but they were too expensive for international and local... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages No more than any other provider

3 mobile are owned by Hutchinson Telecom, the largest mobile phone supplier in the world. Hutchinson as well as owning the mobile phone network they also own one of the largest health and beauty franchises in the world, one that we will all be familiar with Superdrug, this is why you will always find 3 mobile in Superdrug stores. 3 Mobile launched in 2003, planning to make the biggest notch in the mobile marketplace. This of course was never likely to happen; Orange and Vodafone dominated the UK market. What happened was a melt down in the initial first few months. There were a number of ... more

    Advantages Advantages Customer service, cheapish

Disadvantages Disadvantages bad coverage, £15.00 min top up

Having decided it was time to purchase a camera phone, i went along to carphone warehouse and had a bit of a mooch about. Now i wasnt really sure what i wanted but i saw a sign advertising the 7600 (nokia) for 29.99 as long as you went to the "3" network. Now that was a bargain i could not miss! Now i didnt know anything about this network, so i asked the lady behind the counter and she explained it was a new network and that is why the phone was soo cheap for october only. She did explain however that the minimum top-up would have to be £15.00 per month and you would have to use that £15.00 ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap good quality phones (at least in my experience...) AWESOME Value-for money, range of advanced services

Disadvantages Disadvantages Per minute billing, top up lost after thirty days, variable coverage and network quality (though this has improved recently),0800 and 0845 numbers NOT included in your regular allowance.

I first had a brush with 3 back in January 2004 when I purchased a Motorola A835 on Videotalk 500. It was a mixed experience and to cut a long story short I terminated my account with them. Well things change and due to absolute necessity, I purchased an NEC e616v on 3 PAYG and I've been pleasantly surprised by the major improvements I've experienced. I joined a queue of about twenty in my local Superdrug store just before Christmas and purchased it for £44.95 inc 50 mins of airtime and £5 woth of extras inc video downloads ringtunes etc. Give-away or what? Of course 3 have priced their ... more

Advantages Advantages Decent phone, and it seemed like a good price...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Constrictive Top-Ups, horrid ring-tones, no games... no credit refund!!!

I bought myself a ThreePay mobile phone for Christmas, as my current phone is over 5 years old and not very healthy. Being on a T-mobile Pay-as-you-go set-up a straight forward upgrade would cost me about £50 and require moving back onto a contract (18 months for T-mobile!), which I didn't want to do. I really like the Nokia 6260, but am reluctant to sign up to a Vodaphone or O2 contract to get one. So I spent some time looking around and eventually went with a deal for the Motorola C975 on ThreePay. I have to say I was quite impressed with the phone, which is much smaller and compact than ... more

Advantages Advantages Potentially very cheap, easy and fast to top up, and the 3-live service is excellant

Disadvantages Disadvantages Does not come with free games, reception is generally poor, and unless you have a debit card the above are not true

3 is the tariff I have had with my last two mobile phones; the NEC e313 and the Motorola A835 (Both of which I have also reviewed if you fancy taking a look-see?). It is, so far, the best tariff I have seen so far. As I am too young to have a contract phone, I have to go for the pay-as-you-go services. I wanted a camera phone, which is what 3 is famous for providing. So I went for it. Unlike most pay-as-you-go services, 3-pay offers bundles as opposed to "straight" credit. For example, the most common way to top up is to buy a 15 pound voucher. From this you can get: 50 voice calling minutes + ... more
