42 All-Time Classics is a game you should have if you own a DS. There's something in there for everyone and although the box says ages 12+, I have to disagree. I'm pretty sure there are some smart kids out there much younger that 12 who would give you a run for your money in multi-player mode.

Advantages: You don't have to clear away the game pieces Disadvantages: The sound gets annoying after a while

The games can be played single and multi-player against another DS opponent or the computer. Multi-player can be over the internet or wirelessly with ... ..."gift" where you would send one of the games to his/her DS and they can play until they turn the DS off.
When you first switch on you are presented with the start screen and three options, Single player, Multiplayer and Settings. The settings button is for adjusting background sound and music. This is where you will choose a username and an icon to represent yourself. More Icons can be earned during gameplay.

You can also give another DS user a "gift" where you would send one of the games to his/her DS and they can play until they turn the DS off.

Single player mode consists of Freeplay mode, Stamp mode and Mission mode. Freeplay mode is where you can jump right in and play any game although some are locked which you can free up in Stamp mode. Stamp mode, this is where you will play games in order and cannot progress to the next one until you have received 3 stamps. You will receive 3 stamps for first place, 2 for second and just 1 for last place. This mode can get a bit boring if there's a particular game you don't like or are not very good at. I suppose it's Nintendo's way of getting you to learn all games. In Mission mode there are 30 particular missions you have to complete either by a time limit or by notching up the relevant number of points needed to win. As you progress you will be given bonuses in the form of player icons, unlocking games or unlocking game designs like new boards or graphics.
Multiplayer mode can be played with a friend who has a DS with the same game cartridge but you can also send them different games to play alone or with you. This game is deleted once they switch off their DS. Switching off your DS makes no difference. The other multiplayer mode is of course, the internet. You can only do this if you have a wireless router or if you are near a wireless hotspot. In multiplayer mode you will have 3 options, the first is local wireless (you and a friend), Nintendo WFC (you and the world) and Ranks where you can check your stats for online play.
The games are a mix of basic, intermediate and advanced card games, basic and advanced board games, variety games, action games and single player only games. There are clearly too many to review individually or to even mention so it's best to look for sellers who list each game.
Most of the games are multiplayer so you will be playing the computer opponents most of the time. On the settings screen for each game you can choose between 1 or 3 computer opponents and choose a skill level, easy, normal or hard. This is where you can also choose the design layout of the game providing you have unlocked some in mission mode. Here you can look at the rules of the game which are easy enough to understand.
You won't like every game and some may annoy you but you have to remind yourself that you're an adult and some of the games "might just be for kids". There's no point in me saying anything bad about a particular game as the compilation has to please everyone. I don't play them all but the ones I do play are well worth the money spent.
Some of my favourites are Rummy, Blackjack, Five card draw, Contract bridge, Texas hold em, checkers, turncoat (reversi), connect five, backgammon, ludo, dominoes, word balloon, bowling, billiards, balance, solitaire and escape. Some games might seem a bit stupid to begin with but they get you hooked and you will go back for more, especially if you're up against an internet opponent. Yes, the competitive streak comes out and you "must win"
Overall I'd say this compilation is a must if you own a DS. It's so easy to learn new games and the classics are there that you can jump in and play. It's perfect for the long airport waits and flight times or just good for a 10 minute break. It's fun when you play someone else in the same room but even more exciting playing online as your desire to win takes over.
Sorry I didn't elaborate on the games but I'd be here all day, Just take my word that they are all great to play and some do get addictive. I played Ludo 87 times in one month against the computer and internet opponents. For the price you cannot possibly go wrong, it's a steal.
Advantages: Brilliant in multiplayer mode Disadvantages: Some of the games are rubbish
42 All Time Classics was the must have DS game for Christmas 2007, it was selling for silly prices on Ebay and I searched high and low to get a copy for my daughters stocking. Ten months on and it's one of the favourite games in our collection.
The game, as the name suggests, consists of 42 mini games all bundled onto one games cartridge. The games are split into eight categories, basic card games, intermediate card games, advanced card games, basic ... ...pointless soda shake.
42 All Time Classics is available for £15-£20 from all the usual places making it one of the cheaper DS titles, make sure you shop around to get the best deal. You won't like all 42 of the games but I'm sure there is something in there for everyone and it is brilliant if you have a friend with a DS to play with. It's the perfect game to pick up and play for a short time to unwind or kill some time and have some fun. ...

Advantages: A great selection of games | Addictive | Online Disadvantages: Music
...sibling Big Brain Academy. 42 All-Time Classics is the latest game to entice people who wouldn't normally play games to the handheld. 42 All-Time Classics is, oddly enough, a game that comprises 42 favourite games into one little game cart. Games are split into categories comprising of card, board, action, variety and single player games. Among these you'll find familiar faces such as Chess, Backgammon, Ludo, Solitaire and Hearts. You'll also find ... ...With 42 games to choose from there's going to be some you love and some you'll avoid and there's going to be some that work great and some that don't. The most notable examples are Billiards and Darts. Billiards should just be renamed Air Hockey because that's what it feels like. The balls seem to slide on the table and it's difficult to judge how hard you'll be hitting it. Darts is pretty much luck of the draw, you pull back on the touch screen ...

...checkers. There really is 42 games, 38 of them which are playable online.
Gameplay 10/10
This is amazing. This game is so fun it will keep you playing for months on end, it has all your classics you will ever play ever. This game is relativly easy when you first get it but as you unlock normal or hard on stamp mode. Or change it on the settings. Well the controls on this game are amazing it uses the touch screen extremely well, this is one of the ... ...i say... it does all it needs too do... nothing very special here. But i must say that you can see all the cards perfectly... the only thing i was disapointed about was the pool... but other than that its fabulous
Sound 9/10
About what you would expect from the Ds, it can be played in surround sound. You can hear the cards being dealt or the darts hitting the board... the only downfall is a little bit dated music. No problem here. Multiplayer 10/10
