Blow the runes away - 7 Wonders of Ancient World DS puzzle game

This review is for the game, 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, a game for the Nintendo DS developed by Hot Lava Games and published by MumboJumbo Software. The game is essentially a puzzle game where you have to match up similar objects to progress through the game. The game is based on Bejeweled, a popular game where you have to match up three or more runes to be able to progress through the game. The title of the game is based on the seven different levels you work through, ie, the great pyramids, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus, Mausolus Mausoleum, the Lighthouse of Alexandra, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the hanging gardens of Babylon. Review of 7 Wonders of the Ancient World (Nintendo DS)

The only wonder is where the fun went.

Advantages: easy to control with stylus
Disadvantages: levels all the same, too easy, music and sounds

As I mentioned in a previous review, I recently got a 50-in-1 games cartridge for my DS after my interest for it waned, and it certainly worked as I've been playing non-stop since it arrived! So here's review number two from that, there's bound to be more... One of the games on the cartridge is 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. I recognised the title from playing online demos (games and Ciao pass my work days quite nicely, thankyou very much!) so I knew what the game involved. I wasn't expecting anything too exciting, more like a "filler" to bump up to the 50 total of games. I was pretty much on the money. 7 Wonders is a game much like Bejeweled where you swap icons around to make rows of three. The difference here is that the background for that row changes colour, and you have to change the entire board. Still not a new concept ...

WONDERful read: 7 Ancient Wonders (spoiler free)

Advantages: A whirlwind tour of fabled wonders
Disadvantages: RSI from turning those pages so fast!

There have been a plethora of novels recently, trying to imitate the winning formula employed by the now infamous Dan Brown. An ancient cult trying to hide / exploit a dangerous secret with various codes and allusions to historical facts (and fictions!). In my opinion, many have failed in their attempt. Matthew Reilly, on the other hand, has created a resounding success! From the first page of Seven Ancient Wonders, I literally did not want to put this book down - a desire which proved a little bit of an issue wth a book over 500 pages long. Please don't be put off by the length of this book; it is intensely readable. Although Reilly is dealing with ancient history, he avoids the pitfall of trying to be too clever and bewildering the reader with complicated facts and information which the they don't actually need.
