I paid £84 last year for my membership with the AA relay service. I have had one call-out. On 21st August I was travelling to Stansted airport when I got a puncture on the A1. The AA sent a contractor, Tinda Lee, who changed the wheel. Five days later I picked up the car at the airport and started to drive home. On the M11 the car started to vibrate and when the steering wheel started to shake I pulled over and called the AA again. The mechanic (from a different garage) arrived after 90 minutes, during which the four children and I were terrified by the traffic thundering by. He told me that the wheel nuts had not been tightened on the previous occasion and that the wheel was about to fall off. I complained to the AA, but their Customer Services department will not take any action. I have been complaining since August. E-mails are acknowledged but never replied to. £84 for a call-out that put our lives at risk? I intend to join a different organisation this year.

I never realised the Aa used outside contractors - i've always had a proper AA man come out. Also they have a policy of all call outs being within 30 mins. I'd ring them back to query the times you had to wait and ask to make an official complain about the first contractor

Advantages: none- I never actually had a breakdown to use the services Disadvantages: they benefit financially if you do not receive your renewal notice
