Highly recommended degree Review ofUniversity of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST)by

Advantages: great nightlife, good choice of subjects, chance of a year abroad, great reputation Disadvantages: sometimes courses are unorganised, tough competition to get in
...I've just finished my third year of an International Management and French at UMIST and would recommend it to anyone. You get so much choice of modules that you can really tailor your degree to your interests. The third year is spent abroad, and everyone says it, but it really is the best year of your life. You meet so many people and gain a totally new outlook on life. Manchester itself is an amazing city - there's a huge student community and more bars than you can imagine. The department has just been voted the best management department in the country, and has a great reputation. You need ABB to do the course but it's worth the hard work!...

Medicine@QMW Review ofLondon University Queen Mary & Westfield Collegeby
mubeen
Advantages: Excellent facilities, based in london, great social life, friendly atmosphere, loads of societies and much more Disadvantages: requirements for other subjects at QMW make this college look mid-class

What is the best place to study economics? The answer is London School of Economics.
Similarly what is the best place to study pharmacy? The answer is London School of Pharmacy.
This follows that the best place to study medicine would be London School of Medicine. Exactly. The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry became part of QMW in 1994. The Royal London Hospital and Barts is now part of QMW. And like any other university in the UK they require ABB at a-level in 'chemistry', 'another science' and 'any other subject'. The course is the modern integrated course which allows pre-clinical training to be given alongside the clicnical training. I am in my 1st year and it has been great so far....

Advantages: Lots of courses to choose from Disadvantages: 'Beans' system of course allocation - might not get courses you want
...The bizarre thing about doing a Geography degree at Edinburgh University is that you have to choose between human & physical Geography and yet it is exactly the same course.
Human Geography requires ABB A-Levels to get in and you must do four years, but you graduate with an MA. Physical Geography requires BCC to get in and if you got better A-Levels than that you can skip 1st year, however you only get a BSc. And I repeat, its exactly the same course - you can do any courses or half courses in second year or honours whichever degree you are registered for, and you can apply to change faculty if you want to. I found this irritating myself, as I got ABB in my A-Levels but had to do 1st year (which was a repeat of A-Level geography) whereas my friend who got in through clearing got direct entry into 2nd year Geography with A...
