Updated!...
My Husband and I have been trying to conceive our first child for over 9 years now.
As you can imagine over this time we have tried many home pregnancy tests; branded, shop's own brand, cheap and expensive.
Since discovering ACON's One Step pregnancy cassette test we will not be trying any other. Let me explain why...
PRICE ACON's One Step tests are so much cheaper than any that I have seen in any shop. My first batch cost me £12 for 20 tests, and that includes shipping. Yes, £12 for 20!!!! And they are not the flimsy cheap looking plastic ones that you have to dip in urine for 20 seconds.
DESIGN ACON's One Step tests are cleverly designed so that the whole test is enclosed, no strip to pee on for 'X' number of seconds, no worrying about running out of urine, no worrying about dipping it in for too long, or not long enough! No worrying about accidentally peeing on the test window.
HIGH STANDARDS ACON's One Step tests are ISO 9001 Certified - ISO is the International Standards Organisation and companies have to meet certain criteria with their procedures and pass regular audits in order to be certified.
ACCURACY ACON's One Step tests detect the pregnancy hormone 'hCG' at a very low level 25miu of hCG. To compare that with other tests Boots own brand detects hCG at 50 MIU and First Response detects hCG at 40 MIU (Source www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hpt.html ). Why does this matter? Well the lower the level it detects then the earlier you are likely to be able to get a result.
WHAT DO YOU GET? Each ACON One Step test contains a small foil pouch containing the test, a little pipette and a sachet of silica gel (to keep everything dry!). The instructions for the test are on the back of each packet.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Quite simply you... (1) place the test on a level surface; (2) collect a mid-stream urine sample in a collection cup; (3) use the pipette to suck up some of the sample; (4) drop 3 drops into the 'specimen well' (marked 'S'); (5) time the test for 3 minutes; and then (6) read the result.
Of all the tests I have used over the years none have been so simple, so fool-proof and so cheap. Sorry Boots but I will not be buying any more of your pregnancy tests!
Update: They have stopped selling these tests to the public, they say that that they only sell these particular tests to professional end users including clinics, hospitals, doctors, nurses, GP's, practitioners, research labs, universities, charities, schools etc.
However they do sell a very similar test that is the same 'cassette' format, the 'ACON Ultra Early 10miu home pregnancy test cassette packs'. At 10 tests for £16.99 with free UK delivery, it's still great value plus it's suitable for testing earlier, as it detects a lower amount of hCG in the urine than standard tests, it's the earliest commercially available home test.
Hiya sounds like a great test to use...for different reasons, price, and no more aiming the stick into the wee lolol!! Good review :-) Im blowing baby dust towards you...good luck x
