The Column is the first HiFi speaker system to carry the A.R.T. midrange unit. Its unusual reproduction capabilities will transfer the fascination of a great concert and will reveal the subtle details of modern recording technique.
Advantages: Looks great open and closed, also sounds AMAZING! Disadvantages: No face off feature, Radio code can only be entered using remote, battery life on remote is rubbish and some features can only be accessed using this remote.

ON THE BACK?
As well as the standard vehicle wiring connector/aerial-in there are auxiliary left and right stereo input plugs for connecting, say an MP3 player, and playing the audio tracks through the vehicle’s speakers… pretty good idea!
There is also has an external remote interface for adding a steering column remote or upgrading your existing steering remote… if the latter option is your choice you may need to again purchase an extra lead to convert the existing wiring, it, however, is just an option, not a necessity.

Advantages: Fit a CD changers worth on 1CD, good price, ease of use, expandable Disadvantages: MP3 quality deteriorated with amplification
...Good power head unit if you just want direct replacement for OEM unit, custom fit speakers will be needed to appreciate sound quality in some cars. MP3 quality is good with head unit output but audiophiles should know amplification shows up its weaknesses, although standard CD audio doesn't suffer this problem. Good expandable qualities with 2 sets of RCA's and socket for Sony column joystick (which I have fitted).
As a personal preference a full set of Infinity Kappa's really do this head unit justice and will reproduce the full range of music the Sony is capable of outputting. A lot of car manufacturers now fit outstanding speakers as standard so my preference may not be needed.

...to provide one extra of each. In the no column is the inclusion of a D-Sub PC input, and a couple of jacks which immediately prove the presence of a built-in digital tuner: a CI slot for subscription TV channels, and a digital audio output.
The latter of these lets you ship Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks - should the Freeview terrestrial digital platform broadcast any - to a suitable surround sound receiver.
Remarkably the digital tuner is far from the only eye-catching feature of this cut-price plasma. For starters it's also HD Ready thanks to: the inclusion of component video jacks alongside the HDMI; a sufficiently high native resolution of 1,366 x 768; and full compatibility with the necessary 720p and 1080i HD formats. (There's no 1080p support, though.)
Also startling is a claimed contrast ratio of 10000:1, an outlandish figure...
