Manufacturer's product description
The Scalar 100 is a mid-range library that offers a powerful combination of industry-leading density, trouble-free scalability, and advanced storage networking technology. This capacity-packed system is the first tape library to deliver a storage density of 1TB per rack unit. In fact, a standard rack cabinet can hold three Scalar 100s, giving you up to 43TBs of capacity in a very compact space. Highly scalable, the Scalar 100 can grow, and adding capacity is easy. Upgrades take less than 10 minutes and don't require changing your rack system or adding external elevators or pass-through ports. The Scalar 100 also gives you enterprise-class storage features, including integrated SAN connectivity and management services, redundant power, remote management, and a bulk-load mailbox that can handle Terabytes at a time.

Advantages: Stylish, Very Quiet, Ease of Use Disadvantages: None
...This stylish hard drive from Western Digital is one of the simplest electronic things I have bought in years. Just plug it into your USB port, and it does every thing for you, no installing drives off CD's, which on some things I have experienced, can be very time consuming. It is also surprisingly quiet and very stylish and with 320Gb of space theres enough room for thousands of your pictures and music files. This also comes with a Fire Wire cable so transfer of your files is almost instantaneous. The cost is a little higher compared to some of its competitiors, I got mine for £99 from Amazon, but is well worthy of the price tag. I can promise, you wont be disappointed....

Advantages: Vast storage capacity, attractive, easy to use Disadvantages: Rather large, power supply takes up space
...For a few months now I have been having trouble with hard drive space on my computer, as well as a couple of major system failures that resulted in alot of stuff being wiped off my machine. For this reason I decided to invest in an external hard drive, where I could both store and backup my precious files.
A GOOD INVESTMENT
Up until the most recent time I had to reinstall Windows, losing files in the process, I was'convinced I would never have to backup stuff - as long as I don't fill my computer will junk, everything will be fine! Well, I was wrong. Systems fail all the time, regardless of reliability, and so I think it is important for people to consider purchasing devices such as the Seagate Barracuda External Harddrive.
FEATURES
It comes in a range of capacities, including 80, 160, 250 and 320gigabyte models. This is a good thing...

Advantages: Fast spindle speed, large buffer, high capacity, fast data speed Disadvantages: May need SATA interface card
...Upgrading... Everyone does it (eventually).
After upgrading my computer, i decided to get a new hard disk.
Mine was becoming full of stuff, so i had a look to see what i could get.
I know hard drives are now available in stupendously large sizes now (500GB+), but i decided on two of these 160gb drives along with a Highpoint SATA Raid card (gives me a 320gb drive)
With raid, data is written and read across the drives (Raid 0), which speeds up the process by about 50-75%
Installation of the drives / card was done as follows:
1/ Plug the highpoint card into an available pci slot
2/ Plug the SATA cables onto the highpoint card.
3/ Plug one SATA cable into each hard drive
4/ Plug a power cable into the drives
5/ Go into Highpoint cards bios and setup the raid array.
6/ Format drive and install windows.
Once up and running, the speed...

Once I bought the iPhone I was dying for another bite of the Apple. I have a huge and ever expanding collection of music and therefore need a large MP3 player to hold it all on. The iPhone is great, but with a 16GB hard drive it just isn't quite large... more
