Manufacturer's product description
The Scalar 100 AIT tape library delivers cost-effective scalability and industry-leading density. In only 14 rack units, users can start with two drives and only 24 cartridges - then add drives and cartridge slots easily without buying additional libraries or adding complex stackable units. When fully configured, the Scalar 100's eight AIT drives stream data at up to 449 GB per hour and its 96 tapes hold over 12 terabytes. The Scalar 100's connectivity options also support network growth - a simple plug-in module allows it to operate as a SCSI library or a FibreReady SAN library with built-in serverless backup support. Managing the Scalar 100 is easy with its intuitive operator interface and integrated web management.

...This drive is perfect for backing up. Be it;

It's simply a case of plugging it in and sitting back, it's plug 'n' play, so as soon as you plug it in, Windows will go through it's usual stages when installing new hardware and like magic, you now have a 100GB externel harddrive.
It's extremely quiet and fast, which is what you would like when backing up. it also has a 7200 RPM, 8MB cache buffer, it's USB 2.0 and 1.1 compatible (upto 480 Mb/sec, Windows and Mac Os) plus a Maxtor DriveLock to protect from unauthorized use.
If you want an easy to install external harddrive with no cons, install wizard, plus a little extra, then this would be for you....
