ADIC Tape library drive module 400 GB 800 GB

Advantages: Large Capacity, blazing fast.
Disadvantages: Poor quality, breaks at the blink of an eye, fragile, sloppy manufacture

...We transitioned to Spectra Logic drives in March of 2006. It is January of 2007, and we have had to have both units replaced 3 times, the longest one lasted was 6 months, the shortest one lasted was 6 hours. They will overnite you a new unit, but that does not solve the quality issue. 6 of sh*t is sh*t. Woe unto you if your tape drive "white screen" dies.. You have to disassemble the top of the unit, attach a 3/16 socket to a motor plate, and manually remove all of the tape chambers. This process is long and tiresome. My advice to you is to spend a little more $$ and buy a quality item. Trust me, you will be disappointed.... Read review

...I totally agree with first reviewer. Worked out of the box. I partitioned the 400 GB into two drives using Partition Magic 8 (which had previously baulked at a 160 GB internal HDD) and am using one for storage of digital images (duplicates to CD/DVD backups). Mine, even after three hours use, did not get hot - rather a nice warm value. It works very quietly and I can fully recommend this make and model as exceptionally good and extremely good value for money. When I think back to the 40 MB disc I used for years (Drivespaced, too) I cannot but think what fantastic value for money this is. As a supplement to my internal 2 X 120 GB HDDs, it will provide an additional capacity for my growing storage of high quality digital images (I am now a retired PRO Photographer and teacher of, says he blushingly, high international reputation)... Advantages: Backup of data is Crucial - Cheap Entry Level
Disadvantages: Low in GB size

...This Tape Backup is Very easy to Use & Install - In my opinion it's the easy one on the Market ! Hewlett Packard is simple a name to trus, there have been so many other tape drives come and go but the main problem I always find is that fitting an older tape drive will not does not always work under the latest windows operating system. This Tape drive works under Windows 98, Windows ME , Windows 2000 And of Course Windows XP. I have tried many other tape drives in the past and the main thing I find to be a pain in **** is speed of data transfer and getting it to work under other operating systems. IN THE PAST I have had to have dual operating systems to get around this.... Read review
