Advantages: Fast, tiny, attractive, cool, compatible, compliant
Disadvantages: Not enough ports (but then it is a 5 port), a little more expensive than similar units by others

...on the front feet! The only way to secure the unit into a rack, is to put a shelf in the rack! You can’t extend the internal bus of this switch (which could extend its switching capability to a second and/or third device), but the 5th port has two sockets. One socket allows the fifth port to be used as an uplink port to another hub. In practice this is a little redundant – the same functionality can be achieved cheaply by using a crossed patch cable. Why is this necessary? If you simply connect hubs and switches together in a daisy chain using standard ports and cables they wouldn’t normally be able to communicate, because you would be connecting the transmit side to the transmit side, and the receive side to the receive side. Using an uplink port or a crosspatch cable connects transmit to receive & vice versa. I suppose Linksys reasoned... Read review

Advantages: Lots of resource, processor power and expansion

...the Box you can expand the RAM up to 4Gb thanks to the expansion slots and there are 2 slots available for dual Core Xeon processors. Normally they ship with one and I will mention prices for additional processors later. On the front of the server, there is a great LED display that gives a simple and effective method of telling shat is plugged in, working or faulty on the server. Handy for diagnosing hardware issues. Alson on this panel are 2 handy placed USB connectors so you can "front access" devices such as mice and keyboards when setting it up before loading into a server rack. Weight of it is HEAVY. It takes 2 of you to load and lift this into the rack and it comes with the bolts to attach it to the front of the rack but not the sliding mounts. ...Yet another purchase for the office. The FS524 provides all your networking needs without a high price at £82. As per my other reviews this is another business offering from Netgear with a very high build quality. Strong as an OX you might say. The FS524 provides all the normal operations of a standard hub but with the adition of 10 or 100MBps intelligent switching. The unit automatically senses what the network speed of a plugged in device is and adjust accordingly. All ports on the 524 are auto sensing for uplinks, so there is no need to be pressing buttons or playing with cables. The other major bonus with the 524 is it comes rack mount ready.
