ADT Alarm

Being a first time home owner, I was particularly concerned with my safety and the protection of my property. Crimes such as murder and theft seem to be on the rise, and can anyone ever feel too safe? I want to summon the law enforcement community to my home in a moments notice. Strangely enough, I have a dog. This story will seem rather amusing as it progresses.

I was referred to an ADT salesman, who arrived and assessing the situation, came up with an affordable plan for me. I signed an agreement for the plan, and the next day a technician arrived and installed the alarm. He then made sure I understood how to arm and disarm the system. I was also given easy to follow step-by-step instructions and a video. They do want to make sure you understand the system. They want to avoid 'false' alarms, and you are only allowed three a year, before they won't monitor you anymore. Seems false alarms cost money and police time.

My home owners insurance saved me 10% with this alarm system. I had it for over three and a half years and only had one problem. I was once called at work to go to my house because the alarm had sounded and the police were on their way. I had to drive over 15 kilometers in heavy traffic, and drove like a madman. When I arrived there were two police officers with guns drawn wanting me to open the door to my house. Needlesss to say we deduced that a burst of wind may have tossed the curtains, which set the movement sensors off. It made sense seeing there was no other explaination.

A technician came to check the system and slapped me with a $80 bill, and did nothing! That's when I decided to drop the monitoring. My insurance went up, but it's still less than I paid for monitoring. If it makes one have peace of mind, then there is no price for security. I would highly reccomend it!

Dogs are the best alarms in the world. Big, small, medium, the bark of a dog deters many an intruder. A dog is the alarm, the attacker, and the deterant to a crime. Alarms can be easily bypassed. Most crimes are done by someone who knows you, or knows the layout of the house. In my area dialing 911 on the phone will summon police officers quicker than most alarms(especially if you are labeled with a false alarm).

When I worked nights I also installed a light timer that would turn lightson and off at certain intervals. But let me stress that if you can afford it, and it makes you feel secure, ADT is a worldwide company that will deliver peace of mind to you and yours. On the good side the window stickers and the lawn sign are worth their weight in gold! The signs and stickers that advertise that your property is monitored and protected by ADT, are often stolen and sold. The advertisement is worth more than the monitoring fee. I diplay mine from the inside. I don't have the monitoring, but I feel secure knowing my dog is safe!
