I moved into my new house about a year and a half ago and as it came unfurnished needed to buy a fridge pretty quickly. Being half American I had always loved the big American Fridges that hold enough food for a family for about a year with a water filter on the front and an ice machine so I had this in mind when I went to Currys.
However as I found out these fridges are also quite wide and the space I had to put my fridge in was quite small which is when I came across the AEG Electrolux fridge/freezer. IT was £650 at Currys which I didn't think was too bad.
The first thing that attracted me to this fridge was the look and design. It's a free standing, chrome fridge so it's not plastic looking like some fridges. The outside is very easy to clean as it is just wipe clean. It has two section, the fridge portion and the freezer portion.
It has a nice thin but sturdy handle on each door running the length of the fridge and freezer. The capacity of this fridge/freezer is 373 litres and the dimension are - H:2010mm W:595mm D:632mm. The nice thing about this fridge is that it is lovely and tall and not too wide so it fits in my space but also is not too tall that I cannot reach the top shelf.
The Fridge - The inside of the fridge has 3 shelves which are made of safety glass. These shelves are adjustable so you can move them about depending upon what you want to put in your fridge. This makes the shelves very very handy for cleaning as well as they come out so if you do happen to spill something in there (very easy in my opinion) then it cleans very easily.
The shelves are approximately 12 inches deep so you can fit a lot of food on each shelf.
At the top of the fridge there is a very handy wire rack that has bends in it so you can put wine bottles in the top without them rolling around. This is one of my favourite parts of the fridge.
At the bottom part of the fridge there is a large draw for fruit and veg. This measures about 9 and a half inches deep so plenty of room for a lot of fruit and veg. It has a plastic divider in the middle which also moves so you can divide up your perishables if you wish. It also has a breathe hole strip across the top of the draw to keep the fruit and veg fresh.
In the fridge door there are three shelves. The top one has a door and comes with an egg holder which you can place up to six eggs in. The little door is handy as you can keep your butter and things like that in there.
The great thing about the bottom shelf in the door is that it is big enough to hold a large carton of Orange Juice or a 4 pint plus jug of milk in it. Not a lot of fridges do that so I think this is a great benefit of this fridge. The shelf allows it to stand upright too so no nasty spills.
The freezer - The freezer comes with four plastic see through doors in it. Each draw is quite large and deep and will fit approximately for example 10 packs of meat in.
The draws comes with pictures on them indicating how long you can freeze things for in it, such as 6 months for certain meats, 1 year for frozen fruit etc. This is a great way of knowing what you can and cannot do.
The fridge has twin thermostat temperature control. It has a coolmatic part where you can set the temperature to 5+ and a frostmatic where you can set the temperature to -18. This is another great part about the fridge. If you have just done a big shop and you have loaded the fridge and freezer you just press these buttons so they know there is more stuff to cool and then they will bring the temperature down for you. Also this stops the build up of ice in the freezer and means you do not have to clean it out when the ice is overflowing.
The fridge has an energy rating of A so it is quite good for the environment.
So far I have had no problems with this fridge. Everything is always chilled at the right temperature. It is plenty big enough for a family freezer and also looks good at the same time. I would definitely recommend it to potential purchasers.
