I had seen it in an aeg brochure, and thought yes that's the one. The next problem was finding one to look at they where brand new. This was in itself the hardest job finding a shop to actually go and look at it , feel the controls, look at the quality, even aeg uk didn't know which shops had it on display. I tried everywhere, then found its slightly larger twin on display in the local Wickes " just not where I expected it to be considering it is top end price for an extractor.
It did not disappoint, in fact all the difference with the bigger one is it is extended by two plain side panels, so it is actually no more effective. My husband is tall and hates hoods that jut out that he bangs his head on, this was perfect. The kitchen fitters we employed (30 years in the trade) where a little bemused and lots of sucking of teeth was done, not seen the like before, but all it took was one simple hanging bracket on the wall then it just hooked over, they where just completely bowled over by its simplicity of fit and its looks,he just talked about it for the whole 2 weeks, but it really has made our kitchen look speciall and it is the one item people are drawn too, even men.
Operationally it is great, it really keeps ontop of the steam, smoke etc, I think this is partly due to the fast the first extraction vent is about 40 cm above the cooking area, the base of the fan unit is on the wall about 25 cm above the hob height, and therefore grabs the fumes as they rise particularly noticable from the back rings.
It has four speeds which are selected by tapping the knob on the side down, each press down starts low then mid speed then high then intense then stop , it is like a flap paddle gear box, the same applies to the lights 3 halogen spots right along the top but this time its tapping the knob up and its bright, brighter and off. ( they both work independantly).
The cleaning is a doddle, there is and indicator light on the control button to tell you it is on, this flashes when it needs cleaning, I think it is a timed event, you reset it by keeping the knob depressed for asout 5 seconds. The 2 nd panel up lifts off and clips off easily, you can remove the filter and wash it in a dishwasher, it is basically all stainless steel including the filter. It is not ultra quite but then it is not loud enough that you can't hold a conversation even on intense, and I conclude you really can't have a wisper quite fan unless the motor is remote from the kitchen.
I notice now that the dedetrich are doing a wedge design now, as are some other producers but this in my opinion this is the best in terms of looks, ergonmic design, practically and maintenance.
