Advantages: HOME CCTV AT AFFORDABLE PRICES Disadvantages: NOT SURE REALLY
...to the camera because if there is only a little bit of light available then you may want to stick to the cheaper b/wcameras as b/w will give you a better clarity in low light. Therefore if you want to use a colour camera in a low light area I would always recommend having a movement activated light to allow the camera to see when there is someone there.
WirelessCameras
Again these are available in both b/w and colour. You basically buy a set which comprises of one camera, one transmitter and one receiver (which doubles up as a four camerareceiver/switch). The idea being that you fix the camera outside then drill through the wall and plug the lead into the transmitter that is inside, plug that into the mains and then it will transmit to the receiver which can be positioned up to 100metres away (100m in clear air or more realistic 30m...

Advantages: Full Night Vision Plus Great Day Vision Disadvantages: Slight Glow At Night, Slightly Larger Than Some
...for the camera to see in pure darkness for up to 10metres away. This is not light that is visible to the human eye and therefore it would not alert any body around, or get annoying to any neighbours by having a light coming on or off all night long (however the led’s do give of a faint red glow but nothing much). Basically this camera will give you the best vision by both day and by night.
WHAT DO I GET INCLUDED?
Well for as little as £50 if you shop round you can get one of these camera’s supplied with 20metres of cable which terminates in three phono leads (oh did I mention it has audio too!!! – check the model you get though) and a power supply. Therefore connection is easy as you just need to plug it into a TV or VCR and plug in the power supply and your off and running with your very own CCTV system.

Advantages: Small Camera, Great Picture Disadvantages: The Aerial Is Fiddly
...QUALITY
Despite being wireless this camera will give you a picture as good as any wired camera. Now not only is it wireless but it is also colour and unlike lots of wirelesscameras I’ve seen on the market it is complete with microphone on the back so it sends video and audio signals back to it’s receiver. The microphone is built onto the back of the camera rather than being on a separate lead like the original version of this camera. This makes the overall unit much more compact and smaller (ie. Easier to hide if you want to catch someone doing something).
WIRELESS RANGE
In line of sight and ideal conditions (middle of a desert for example) the box claims up to 100metres. However in practical use in a building I think 30metres is more realistic. Just don’t try to run it if you have a microwave or anything on as it will interfere...
