...Since the Peter Young debacle, the European Growth unit trust has underperformed its peer group by a significant margin. There has been very little in the way of explanation or apology for this, and this poor performance has come at a time when growth stocks have done well relative to the market yet this trust has scarcely performed well next to the total European index. On top of this we have to endure the extortionate charges !!! Some fund managers offer reduced fees post poor performance, too encourage keeping the money with them or even performance -related fees... Read review

Advantages: Personal service, many options ranging from shares to current accounts

...I am a student from Ireland studying in the UK. When I was moving country I needed to set up a student account and to get a bank loan of £2,300. AIB gave me both of these. The services offered by AIB to new accounts are relatively comforting. They provide personal advisors, and you deal with the same people over the coming years. I have had exactly the same advisor for two years. The terms and costs of accounts are also very clear. Given that I have operated two types of account (Current and Loan) and found no loopholes or small-text in two years I find it unlikey that I ever shall. One downfall of the AIB accounts are high charges. 9% for the Loan account, and around 9.75% on student overdraft. It has been impossible to get an overdraft with them because of this, and I have defected to NatWest, who offer 0% interest overdrafts... Read review

...Fleming Investment Management - Share plan service. From the moment I was old enough I wanted to open Investment Trust Savings plans having studied the Unit trust and other product alternatives. Remember these were the days of barely existent asset to share price comparisons and higher dealing costs. I have been with Flemings ever since and must have invested in at least 8 or nine different trusts depending on the prevailing winds. Geographic and Business diversity gives me a cheap window into worldwide markets with a basket of well-researched shares. Their product range has expanded and their costs have fallen without any affect on very good service. I do not have any work dealings with the company but must give congratulation where due....
