Advantages: A fantastic one off story. No waiting for sequels! Disadvantages: None I can think of!
...Reply to Bollinger - yes I did. But in the interests of fair play I'll write another.
Damned good book - read it!
An interesting, if slightly flawed, pretext based on the idea that the AWB could travel back in time and 'save' the confederate cause. Only problem being they want to save it in their own image. Eg keeping slaves in their 'place'. Still the idea of a hard pressed South issued with AK47's is fun enough to go with and the battle scenes in the book are well thought out.
It's a rip roaring read that really is tough to put down. Thankfully it's short enough to be able to read it in one (long) sitting.
I bought this in Waterstones years ago and have rarely seen it in shops since. It does seem to be a popular buy on the internet book shops however.
I usually re-read this every year or so as it is a perennial favourite of mine....

...’s not easy to find unless you happen to have a radical book store (Leicester does) or get mail order from AKPress (details below). In any event, at £4.95 this didn’t call for me to smash open the piggy bank, and there’s 85 pages of goodness. You will come back to this book time and again, and it would also make an excellent resource for students interested in such matters.
The book(let) is prefaced by two introductions, (including the original one for the First Edition), which state the intent of the book clearly – not to enforce the collective’s belief of animal rights (pretty obvious anyway!), but to educate vegans and veggies. And you will be surprised.
Chapter One deals with some facts that “did not fit into any other category”. Too true, there is a definition of the word vegetarian...
