As with all AMD products, the Athlon "thunderbird" series of processors offers good speed and excellent value for money. The 1.1Ghz variant displays a frankly moer than adequate performance for most modern desktop applications.

It has a wide range of motherboards and accessories avaiable (just look for socket A), including a good range of cooling products.

It is rare to find one of these installed in a brand new, off the shelf model, but at around £25 - £30, it can offer excellent value for money for thosethat do not require fast performance for games. In fact games are about the only thing that this processor will struggle with, and even then we are talking about the latest 3-D games.

If you are looking to upgrading your Pc to a new processor, but don't think you will need the sort of specifications found on newer PCs, then this is a very good half way house.
