Advantages: Lightning fast with a variety of applications, fantastic price, good package Disadvantages: Runs a bit hot, not much 64-bit software yet.
...and eventually settled on the AMD Athlon64 3000+ for my new machine. The current price of the 3000+ model makes it only slightly more expensive than the 2800+ and actually cheaper than the equivalent AthlonXP! There's no Intel processor available that can touch it at this price. I paid around £95 for the P-I-B (Processor-In-Box) package, which includes everything you need. The Athlon64 comes in various varieties, 754pin, 939pin, FX and a range of ... ...of just over 2 GHz. AMD use an equivalent performance marking system to rate their processor speeds – so whilst the clock speed of this ‘3000+’ chip is 2ghz, its performance is equivalent to at least a 3ghz Pentium 4 – a common misconception is that clock speed (the ghz/mhz number) is the be all and end all of a processor – most certainly not the case.

Advantages: 64 bit and fast with big cache Disadvantages: nothing really uses it
The AMD 64 has been out a while now, it's a shame that more hasn't been done with this technology.
To explain briefly, when people refer to 'bits' in this context, they're referring to how much information the chip can deal with at any one time - 64 bits is better than 32 because more data is being dealt with in one go. (Ok, I know that's really abstracting it all you geeks out there, but I'm just trying to give people a rough idea.)
Most processors ... ...The beauty of the latest AMD 64 range is that it is backwards compatible with 32 bit software.
Certain games such as Unreal 2004 and Farcry are touting 64 bit versions of their games - that is one reason to purchase one of these chips, but other than that you will be waiting a long time to see these things taxed.
It runs Windows XP like a dream, and runs the beta version of Windows 64 too. Windows 64 is still very unfinished on the whole, and getting ...

Advantages: Fast, Cheap, 64-bit, so much better than an Intel! Disadvantages: Lack of 64-bit programs out
...processor is actually called an AMD Athlon64 3000+, which means that it is the equivalent to an Intel 3Ghz. But it is called here a 2Ghz because AMD are better than Intel and their processors can handle more information, so can be slower, and therefore cooler. (e.g. a 2Ghz AMD is the same as a 3Ghz Intel!).
Now to the review, i bought this processor because i needed a new one badly and this was faster, had a bigger cache and was 64-bit, then i saw ... ...Intel, it will use the AMD 64bit chip (what this has) because Microsoft said to Intel that the new XP would ONLY work with the AMD chip because it was better!!
So basically, this CPU is amazingly fast for the price, can be overclocked to go even faster, stays very cool, extremely simple to install and use and uses the same chip as all Intel 64s because Intel had to buy the AMD one off them! (reason explained above) So this processor is perfect for ...

...the current specs are:
AMD 64 3000+ processor
512 DDR sdram
64mb graphics (soon to be 128)
Abit AV8 motherboard (Very good value and performance)
This processor is one of the new range of 64 bit processors that are now starting to emerge from the big manufacturers. They allow the processor to pass data in 2x as many routes (simple explanation) - process channels, than the previous 32 bit processors. This gives them the advantage of being able ... ...when running numerous programmes. This will soon give rise to many 64 bit applications that make use of the extra juice that can be squeezed from the processors and win XP 64 will become the new microsoft standard (it is currently in beta stage testing). These processors are much better than those they replaced and now severely deteste using the previous versions due to reduced speed and system performance. However be careful if purchasing them as ...

Advantages: The forefront of technology Disadvantages: Price, lack of 64-BIT operating system
The new range of AMD processors incorporate 64-BIT technology as well as a 1MB cache size. All in all this offers faster load speeds as well as more stable operation, in addition to providing years of future-proofing.
The numbers speak for themselves. Previously the processors offered by AMD and INTEL incorporated a mere 32-BIT chip architecture with low cache levels and lower front side bus speeds and CPU freuqncy rates. However, with the launching ... ...to harness faster CPU speeds, more cache and and the massive future-proof 64-BIT technology but also high front side bus speeds (FSB) and ultimately faster memory access speeds.
The real beuty of this processor is its capability to double RAM speeds by using dual channel technologies.
I could continue with this banal technical overview and send you all to sleep, so I will stop and merley summarize. This processor is fast very fast, easy to install ...
