I used this processor to build a completely new computer for xmas (a present for myself ha ha!) and when i first opened the box it was the usual core. In the package there was the core, cool silver gel, heatsink (fan) and the instructions.

I had to buy a new motherboard anyway but be wary the motherboards for the AM2 versions can be rather pricey but the advantage of AM2 means that a lower power usage and so a cooler processor and less fans needed! Also the AM2 board means that the memory accepted is the newer DDR2 RAM which is roughly the same price as DDR RAM but faster! Excellent!

Installing the processor was little trouble and there were no problems.

The performance of the processor is excellent, dual cores are excellent things! I bought this after thinking about buying a dual core pentium however they are very similar but pentiums can be twice the price for the same spec AMD!

In comparison to my old computer (old old p4 1.9Ghz with 1gb ram) this processor helps to wipe the floor with my old computer. The dual core feature means that in comparison i can listen to music, run an anti-virus scan, spyware and adware scan and play Hitman: Blood Money at the same time with very little noticeable shuddering or lag! Excellent. If my old computer attempted this bouts of freezing and poor gameplay would occur!

The startup speeds of the computer are very noticeable as it takes around 40secs to boot in total (after everything has loaded up) whereas my old computer would literally take atleast 4 minutes to boot everything up - no joke!

In comparison it is not the best for Gaming as some single core pentiums are but this is still damn good. Coupling this board with 1gig of RAM and a good graphics card you have a beast of a machine!! This processor (before my graphics card was bought) made it a delight to watch DVDs again on my computer as before it just lagged out and ruined the feel of the movie!

To conclude this is an excellent processor for the money ( i got mine for a tad over £100) and will keep a new computer up to date for atleast 1 year or more for running the latest software and games! Further more this board makes your computer good enough for Vista and more!! (Yay Aero features!)

Thats all folks hope you liked my review. Thanks

Ive always been a bit wary of AMD Athlon processors as they just seem 2nd class to Intel Pentium Processors, but then I don't know much about the insides of computers so I guess its a misplaced view, but nice review anyways :)
