What does all this mean? Well, for a start, it is as fast as most folks will need, and a lot cheaper than an Intel processor, for the tecchies, apparantly it is easy to overclock (make faster still).

I bought this processor, new motherboard, new video card and windows vista home premium to upgrade my old PC which my son now uses for gaming. I may review the motherboard etc. later.
I researched this processor on the web first, and decided on this based on comparing prices and performance with what I need, rather than what I might want, and it does all I need.
Essentially the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is simply two cores (processors)at 3GHz with 1MB of L2 cache per core. This means that you are getting a pretty fast processor which, although launched nearly a year ago, still runs all known games as far as I am aware.

I recently bought Command and Conquer 3, which, in case anyone does not know, is a very processor hungry game, it runs completely smoothly on all the most intensive settings.
In terms of installation, I got a man in to do this, as I am wanting to make sure I am covered by warranty etc.
Cost was pretty cheap, less than £100 (PC World sell these at £149) by buying direct (my PC guy has his own business), which is very little money for quite a lot of power.
The manual that comes with it is really helpful, and although I am no tecchie, I understood most of it.
In short, I do not expect to upgrade this for at least two years, so it is, in my opinion, pretty cost effective.
A brilliant processor, can run the latest games with ease. Brilliant value too! I play the likes of crysis and cod4 seamlessly with this processor.
There are a few things you must be careful of though, first of all this processor gives out a fair amount of heat! I dont feel that the supplied fan is good enough, but that could just be because of my cramped case. Secondly, the edges are sharp! I cut myself while installing it. Be careful!
This is ... ...it didnt complain at all. Thats with an aftermarket cooler though. I upgraded from a single core and was surprised the massive difference it made.
So, in conclusion, this is a very impressive cpu for an appealing price!
Just look at the ciao price comparison and you will see it available for £75! a bargain. I bought mine at £100. I wish i had found ciao then! ...

AMD has been on the decline after Intel introduced its core 2 Duo line of processors. It has been late on 65 nm process and they are paying for that. They had the market under total control just one year ago, but now they have lost even their loyal customers. AMD has to produce something very powerful and should be done quickly or they will even lose the small share that they has got.
Coming to the processor, Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is a midrange processor ... ...but not enough to beat Intel's counter parts.
I got this processor in the PC which my uncle gifted to me. So, I have got it free. If I were given a choice before it was gifted to me, I certainly would have asked for an Intel processor in the same price range.
Looking at the processor, we note that it's speed is 3 GHz. It has a decent amount of L2 cache (i.e 2MB). It fits in AMD's AM2 Socket. It is based on 90 nm manufacturing process. It is rated ...

all of amd's processor chips provide the same punch just with a differant price tag, so amd's easilly reccomended though the motherboards cost a little more, though the motherboards then have a greater spec, the price is still alot under. the only slight downfall if you require tremedous power is that, amd shows no sign in bringing out a quad core chip as intel has done though amd do have a tremendously high spec dual core chip. ...

fast simple and easy to use. nothing bogs it down, ever. will encode a video to dvd format quickly and still have power to spare. one-nil to amd for bringing out a processor that actually is the speed it says it is.

Advantages: Cheap, Good Warranty Scheme Disadvantages: Not as good as intel
Having used this processor for two months for very intensive programs such as video studio 11 and newer games including medal of honour airborne, i can safely say it has stood up well to the challenge.
I purchased this processor to build a whole new rig for video editing as our old dell was not up to the challenge. What a difference this thing made even running vista with a terrible graphics card ( the new 8500gt i ordered didnt arrive so i had ... ...and i was still running vista and video studio 11 with ease.
It runs fine and relatively quietly with the stock fan although you may need to upgrade cooling for overclocking i havent tried this.
The two 3ghz cores are very good and can easily cope with converting a file to DVD, surfing and playing music. Overall a very good product for the price. Although it is not as good as its intel competitors it does stand up for itself and run perfectly. ...
