AMD Athlon 700 MHz processor

Advantages: Good price, good performance
Disadvantages: None that I've found!

...For ages AMD have been making good cheap processors that haven't really been able to offer a real alternative to Intel chips. The Athlon though is different. AMD now have a chip that is really in the same league as the PIII from Intel. My experience is using a 700mhz version and all I can say is give it a try, don't just take the easy option and use Intel. The Athlon makes everything run smoothly and can do everything for your games and programs that Intel can, only at a cheaper price!... Read review

...I compare a price and performance and Intel processor have been allways more expensive than AMD. All test at same Ghz showing that AMD is much faster. My first computer was AMD Duron 700 / Chaintech 7AJA. I had to choose between PIII and Duron 700 and i looked price and performance and i choosed AMD because i didn`t had so much money. After I bought new computer with AMD athlon processor I felt that computer is fast. XP boottime, games and test showed it also. I also have overclocked this processor as well. I looked toms hardware athlon overcloking tutorial and it works fin (+25% speed - stable). Main thing is that processor is good but like all other AMD processor has a problem of heating. ...AMD have certainly turned themselves around in recent times and now represent a viable option to Intel processors. Traditionally AMD have been strong in the "value"/budget segment of the market. The AMD Athlon is a processor that challenges Intel higher up the food chain. Advantages AMD Athlons are faster than Intel processors when comparing Mhz to Mhz. AMD Athlons are cheaper than Intel processors Mhz for Mhz. Possible pitfalls... AMD processors require motherboards with "Socket A". These are different to motherboards that support Intel processors and tend to be slightly more expensive. It is highly recommended that you use an AMD approved power supply with your AMD processor.
