Review of AMD K7 (Athlon) by dazzle

Advantages: Cheap, Fast, Definitely a good buy.
Disadvantages: Runs very hot and needs compatible motherboard and power supply

...AMD have certainly turned themselves around in recent times and now represent a viable option to Intel processors. Traditionally AMD have been strong in the "value"/budget segment of the market. The AMD Athlon is a processor that challenges Intel higher up the food chain. Advantages AMD Athlons are faster than Intel processors when comparing Mhz to Mhz. AMD Athlons are cheaper than Intel processors Mhz for Mhz. Possible pitfalls... AMD processors require motherboards with "Socket A". These are different to motherboards that support Intel processors and tend to be slightly more expensive. It is highly recommended that you use an AMD approved power supply with your AMD processor. If you don't you are liable to suffer from unexplainable crashes. This is because AMD processors run much hotter than Intel processors. It is very easy... Read review

Intel finally catches up with AMD
Review of Intel Pentium III 1.13 GHz processor by Kinny

Advantages: Fast, equals perforamce of AMD at the GHz clock speed
Disadvantages: Too expensive

...'s hasn't be long since the release of the 1GHz processors, intel was the first to officially release theirs in an attempt to try and regain the CPU market, and not long after their release, AMD followed in pursuit. Since then Intel has start to reduce the gap between them and AMD. Intel's PIII Ghz processors is now neck and neck with AMD's Ghz processors as tests suggest. Whether it is with RAMBUS or not it's still offering equal if not better in performace to AMD's Athlon and Thunderbird CPUs. AMD processors are cheaper to buy than Intel PIII's, but if you can afford it then go for the PIII at Ghx speed, they are more reliable than Athlons of Thunderbirds, but you will need to pick a very good motherboard for it to last and to be able to ensure you can squeeze the last bit of processing power out of your CPU. Anything below about 900MHz... Read review

AMD Duron
Review of AMD Duron by Heiko290885

Advantages: stability, speed
Disadvantages: --

...The AMD Duron is a very good alternative to the more expensive Pentium 4 and Athlon processors. Line-moderately the Duron core is based on that of the Athlon and brings therefore also Anna-honouring just as good achievement (closer information see bench mark). For fast plays with complex diagram I would recommend this processor. I have mean AMD tested computers with some running plays, which ran all very good and made no problems. Generally I am with my Duron 1.2 Ghz. Very contently. He falls hardly off and mostly only if any program not reliably runs and an error has. The AMD Duron 1.2 Ghz. runs with a Frontside bus from 2x100 MHz. This processor is meant for all Main boards, which possess a A-base. The Motherboard operates the processor with a tension of approximately 3.3 V. The price for this processor is to be decided a second good... Read review
