Package Type: Retail, AMD Processor in a Box (PIB)
Manufacturer's product description
For those who don't want to go through the hassle of replacing both their motherboard and processor together, as well as a reinstallation of the operating system and some software as well, this processor upgrade is a great, simple, and cost-effective solution, which will significantly prolong the life of your PC. The AMD Athlon MP processor 2200+ delivers increased performance over previous AMD Athlon MP processors, providing the market with a continued improvement on overall processor performance and speed to meet the increased demands of workstation and server specific applications. Based on 0.13 micron copper process technology, the Athlon MP 2200+ delivers approximately a 12% power reduction over previous AMD Athlon MP processors providing further thermal headroom necessary to scale frequency within the thermal limits of server platforms. These lower power requirements allow for increased performance and reliability in server and workstation environments.

Advantages: Cheap and fast compared to equivalent Intel chip Disadvantages: Heat
...Ok, so when most people hear that I built my own computer with an AMDprocessor, they think whats an
AMD, is it some cheap, slow, downmarket Intel? No.
Reasons for buying - Most AMDprocessors are bought by more computer knowledgeable people, as they can
make an AMD achieve what no pentium can do - overclocking. The other reasons why people buy the AMD's, is because of their speed, and low price.
Speed - AMDProcessors are classified by their equivalent Intel processors, so an AMD XP1800+ can do tasks at the same speed as a 1800MHz Intel processor, and an AMD XP2200+ can do tasks at the same speed as a 2200MHz Intel Pentium 4. Actual speeds of AMD's are different however to what their name suggests.
An XP1800+ runs at 1.533GHz, and an XP2200+ runs at only 1.8GHz. It is the quality and caching on AMD
boards however, that allow...

Advantages: Just so much cheaper than Intel Pentiums Disadvantages: Slighty confusing chip names.
...that it is infact a 1.80 Ghz ( 1800 mhz ) processor.
Now for the tech info:
The AMDAthlon XP 2200+ processor has a performance-enhancing cache memory feature of 64K instruction and 64K data cache for a total of 128K L1 cache. 256K of integrated, on-chip L2 cache for a total of 384K full-speed, on-chip cache. It's Socket A infrastructure designs are based on high-performance platforms and are supported by a full line of optimized infrastructure solutions (chipsets, motherboards, BIOS). Available in Pin Grid Array (PGA) for mounting in a socketed infrastructure Electrical interface compatible with 266MHz AMDAthlon XP system buses, based on Alpha EV6 bus protocol Die size: approximately 37.5 million transistors on 80mm2. Manufactured using AMD's state-of-the-art 0.13-micron copper process technology.
And if that isn't enough technobabble for you here...

Advantages: Cheap, sufficient performance, low power consuption Disadvantages: Core processors are faster and overclock better
...As an Amd fan I often check the performance of the new Amd products. Based on a new 65 nm architecture I really expected that this processor is better than than the X2 3800 processor but I had mixed opinions and I'm a little disappointed.
The good things:
Dual core decent performance at low price
Small power consumption , approximate 60 w at full load and only 8w when Cool‘n’Quiet is enabled. Pretty good.
Good stability, The processor is stable and cold tanks to 65 nm fabrication technology
Integrated memory controller.
Good price
The nod so good things:
The new l2 cache memory is slower than the old 90 nm fabrication technology
Doesn't overclock as good as core 2 processors
Smaller performance than x2 3800 in some applications and also smaller performance than the Intel e4000 in many applications...
