Manufacturer's product description
The AMD Athlon XP processor with QuantiSpeed architecture powers the next generation in computing platforms, delivering extra performance for cutting-edge applications and an extraordinary computing experience. The AMD Athlon XP processor is the latest member of the AMD Athlon family of processors designed to meet the computation-intensive requirements of cutting-edge software applications running on high-performance desktop systems. AMD delivers tremendous performance by increasing the amount of work done per clock cycle and improving the operating frequency at the same time. The end result is a processor design that produces a high volume of work done per cycle and high operating frequencies - an optimum combination for compelling application performance.
Advantages: Great Value With the power you need for gaming. Disadvantages: Overheating.
...Amd have been leading the market for cpu's for the home and office user and now they have the xp range with lots more commands for all you gamers. The xp2000+ seems to be the most popular chip on the market at the moment. I build computers for friends and for family and i also work for a leading computer company so i use alot of these chips and i can say that this seems to be the most popular by far.
The only problem i came across with this chip is that it gets hot very quickly which can be sorted out quite easily by getting a decent fan. The amd boxed retail version of this cpu comes with a fan which in my experience is rubbish and doesn't keep the cpu cool at all.
I would say the best fan to purchase for this cpu is either the zalman flower or one of the other fans for the athlon range from the zalman range of fans...

...THis processor is the 2800+ model, which runs at 2.08Ghz.
I was always a fan of AMD but when I started to really learn the differences between them and their Intel competition I started to LOVE them.
I currently have this CPU running on my main PC, which I prefer to the Athlon 64 3000+ I also have.
Granted the 64 has more number-crunching ability, however for the price and limitations it has, the XP soars forward.
The temperature and voltage of this CPU may be relatively high, but for it's age it's a cracker. A bog-standard fan assembly will do fine, but personally I have bigger copper version, and my CPU hardly goes above 40*C.
During gaming this CPU has no problems at all and keeps Battlefield 2 running online at full graphics. Obviously, with a little help from it's AGP card and memory friends. No CPU lag here, even...

Advantages: Fast, Excellent MHz/£ ratio, Highly Overclockable Disadvantages: Hotter than Intel P4s, Die is more fragile.

AthlonXP 2700+ [£80] 33.75 MHz/£
AthlonXP 3000+ [£130] 23.08 MHz/£
AthlonXP 3200+ [£160] 20 MHz/£
Intel Celeron 2.6GHz [£75] 34.67 MHz/£ <--equiv of Athlon 2200-2400
Intel P4 2.66GHz [£130] 20.46 MHz/£
Intel P4 2.8GHz [£135] 20.74 MHz/£
Basically if you were to graph up these results you would find there is a definate leap just after the 2600, making it in my opinion the best choice. If you want to save yourself £7 go for the 2500 :)
I know I will prolly recieve plenty of critisism for evaluating the Athlonprocessors as I did (i.e. converting their number e.g 2600 straight into GHz e.g. 2.6GHz) but it is my belief that was the intention of AMD. You techies can all flame me to bits if you wish. :)
Any regrets?

Myself personally have no regrets, as of yet from my purchase of the Athlon 2600...
