AMD Duron 800 MHz processor

Advantages: Cheap, Fast, Definitely a good buy.
Disadvantages: Runs very hot and needs compatible motherboard and power supply

...AMD have certainly turned themselves around in recent times and now represent a viable option to Intel processors. Traditionally AMD have been strong in the "value"/budget segment of the market. The AMD Athlon is a processor that challenges Intel higher up the food chain. Advantages AMD Athlons are faster than Intel processors when comparing Mhz to Mhz. AMD Athlons are cheaper than Intel processors Mhz for Mhz. Possible pitfalls... AMD processors require motherboards with "Socket A". These are different to motherboards that support Intel processors and tend to be slightly more expensive. It is highly recommended that you use an AMD approved power supply with your AMD processor. ...The AMD Duron is a very good alternative to the more expensive Pentium 4 and Athlon processors. Line-moderately the Duron core is based on that of the Athlon and brings therefore also Anna-honouring just as good achievement (closer information see bench mark). For fast plays with complex diagram I would recommend this processor. I have mean AMD tested computers with some running plays, which ran all very good and made no problems. Generally I am with my Duron 1.2 Ghz. Very contently. He falls hardly off and mostly only if any program not reliably runs and an error has. The AMD Duron 1.2 Ghz. runs with a Frontside bus from 2x100 MHz. This processor is meant for all Main boards, which possess a A-base. The Motherboard operates the processor with a tension of approximately 3.3 V. The price for this processor is to be decided a second good... Read review

...The AMD Thunderbird series of procesors is not a range to mess with in many respects. They deliver speed, performance, and high reliability. This does however depend heavily on how well you cool the things. I bought an AMD Thunderbird 800 and plonked it in a good motherboard (ASUS A7V). It ran until it tried to boot!!! The system crashed all the time. The problem was the cooling. The processor was getting far too hot and just freezing. A contradiction in terms maybe but the dread for all PC users.... After much messing with the system and many arguements with the retailer the board worked. Lighhtning is a good word to use. The combination of AMDs design and the 133MHz RAM Bus speed made for a very fast PC. The sytstem was identical to my old machine apart from the processor motherboard and RAM.
