Upgrade paths made easy
Review of Evergreen - AMD - Spectra 400 by ipplepen

Advantages: Great option for old pentiums
Disadvantages: When you need a new PC you need a new PC

...Basically, if you have an old Pentium-powered PC, you can upgrade to the equivalent of a 400MHz AMD K6-2 processor. Simple? Well, yes it is, really. There are one or two requirements that your system has to satisfy first; it has to have a Socket 5, Socket 7 or Super7 motherboard with a CPU clock speed of at least 75MHz, but that's not much of a restriction, and the vast majority of machines up to about six years old will qualify. What you get in the Spectra 400 box, aside from the clear instructions, is an AMD K6-2 processor cleverly mounted on a raised pinboard with all the necessary voltage-changers and other circuitry that are required in order to allow it to run at 400MHz in machines originally designed for a quarter of that speed. There's also a CD, which you must use first to check whether a flash BIOS upgrade is necessary (files... Read review

A good cheap upgrade for older computers
Review of Evergreen Spectra 333 - AMD K6-2 333 MHz processor by The_Rock

Advantages: Good price, life time warranty, new technology for old pc's
Disadvantages: Might work as a bottle neck, if your pc lacks RAM

...The evergreen Spectra 333 is a direct replacment for you old Pentium CPU, it replaces Pentium 75Mhz and up and offers a big boost in performance. The upgrade uses an AMD K6 II as the CPU and comes on an adapter board that alters the voltage to make it compatable with your system, the heatsink and fan are also provided as are BIOS updates. It also uses 3D Now technology to provide extra support for graphics in games and general applications. If you can not afford another another computer or can not afford to upgrade the motherboard and processor, then the Spectra 333 is an affordable compromise for your system. The price may seem high at first until you take into account that a new motherboard and memory are not required. The price is around the £120 mark, but cheaper ones are available. Easily a good choice if your old computer can... Read review
