Advantages: Incredibly cheap, reliable CPU Disadvantages: FSB+Cache could be better
...easier when the AMD X2 prices come down in the future, if you are planning to upgrade.
Although the FSB and cache aren't amazing, it wouldn't really be a cheap processor if they were, so I can't really complain about that.
If you're looking for a cheap, reliable CPU. Wether you're on a budget, or want something until the X2 prices come down, a Sempron is a recommended buy....

Advantages: Fast, Excellent MHz/£ ratio, Highly Overclockable Disadvantages: Hotter than Intel P4s, Die is more fragile.
...The AMD AthlonXP 2600+ is in my opinion the best choice for those of you thinking of upgrading, or even buying a new system. And of course I will now tell you why.
Speed
-----------
Running at an FSB of 166MHz, with the help of DDR we double that to 333MHz, the Athlon 2600+ has the equivalent speed of a Pentium 4 2.5GHz (in terms of general use) and because of its optimization with Windows XP boasts Windows processing performance better than Pentiums running faster than 2.7GHz.
In simpler terms it out-performs the Pentium equivalents in every day-to-day tasks.

DVD Burner
Battery life ≥ 2 and a half hours
The specification of this machine is:
1.6GhzAMD Turion
512 MB RAM
60 Gig HDD
Dual Layer DVD Burner
15.1" XGA
NOISE & BATTERY:-
The BIOS has an option for a silent start, and this works. A very useful feature of this notebook is when the CPU is not under stress is underclocks itself down to 800 Mhz to reduce heat and therefore fan usage. Due to the Turion 64 being a mobileprocessor and an AMD CPU it runs cooler than its desktop...
