The AMD Opteron processor, enabling simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, represents the landmark introduction of the AMD64 architecture. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to run existing 32-bit applications with outstanding performance and offers customers a simplified migration path to 64-bit computing. This evolutionary processor provides a dramatic leap forward in compatibility, performance, investment protection, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO). The AMD Opteron processor provides a highly scalable architecture that delivers next-generation performance as well as a flexible upgrade path from 32- to 64-bit computing. With a single architecture designed to meet current and future business needs, the AMD Opteron processor can help to minimize the integration complexities presented by business environments today and in the future.

Finally the Opteron 165 have one other feature that itīs entry level X2 siblings are a bit short of & thats probably why its so fast in so many applications & benchmarks that i have runned
curious yet? its the doubled L2 cache (2x1MB)
FYI Iīm currently running this gem @ 2.7GHz (thatīs a good 900Mhz OC) & the temp is so low compared to my former AMD A64 3200+ (Venice) around 15 degrees celsius lower on the average.
I can also add that I bought this one just to OC the heck out of it, so immediately after the break-in time of 3 days I ramped up the speed adjusted the various settings in the BIOS & ran PRIME95, ORTHOS & 3DMARK06 I was utterly...

Advantages: handle multiple tasks at same time and doesnt slow pc. Disadvantages: potentially waste of money
...the latest processor from intel, the new intel core 2 quad is the most powerful processor available for the average home pc. The 2.4GHzprocessor is more than enough for everyday tasks on your pc. This is perfect if you do hardcore gaming, video editing etc or both! The four cores allow you to simultaneously do alot of tasks on the pc and it will not slow down your pc. As more and more software for pc's need a lot of processing power, this processor is the most up to date and the most powerful as yet. The downside to getting this would be that as computing power of computers are increasing faster and faster with respect to time, the quad core processor will no doubt be yesterdays news within a few months as intel have plans to release an octa-core processor which will then outdate this one....

Advantages: Fast, affordable Disadvantages: Not Multicore.
...Now, I'm not one who knows that much about CPU's before i begin but i can say a few good points about this.
The AMD 3800+ is the last of their single core cpu's that fit the 939 pin socket. In case you do not understand, when you get a computer, you have to buy a motherboard with a matching size socket for your CPU. This is 939 pin. The newer ones are AM2.
This cpu only has a single core but at least it is a nice quick one clocking in at 2.4GhZ. It can be over clocked but I do not do that nor do I recommend unless you have a fair bit of experience. I can honestly say it is fast enough to run ANY current game and I have an X850XTX graphics card which is about two years old now. So clearly its not outdated and if you are budget it does fine. HOWEVER!- If you have the money to spend, go for a newer AMD dual core cpu. The reason why...

Computers now are more demanding and need more speed/power to keep up with performance games and software. Dual core work as two CPU cores which increases performance, it is the equivalent of getting two processors in one. In a dual core processor each... more
