AMD better value!
Review of AMD K-6 by chrisc

Advantages: Cost, speed, reliability
Disadvantages: not as widely available .. yet

...I have an AMD K7 600. I bought this because it runs much faster than intel processors and it is a lot cheaper. It is about time intel noticed that they cannot charge sky high prices for their "pentium chips". Software says on the back that it requires a pentium to run, but this is not so. 98 percent of all software that is made for a pentium will run on an AMD, the other two percent isnt worth buying anyway! Amd run a lot faster and smoother and i would advise anybody that is buying a new pc to go AMD... and whats more AMD go up to 1Ghz unlinke intel!... Read review

More Megahertz isnt More Money
Review of AMD K7 (Athlon) by LimpBizkitUK

Advantages: Cheap and fast compared to equivalent Intel chip
Disadvantages: Heat

...Ok, so when most people hear that I built my own computer with an AMD processor, they think whats an AMD, is it some cheap, slow, downmarket Intel? No. Reasons for buying - Most AMD processors are bought by more computer knowledgeable people, as they can make an AMD achieve what no pentium can do - overclocking. The other reasons why people buy the AMD's, is because of their speed, and low price. Speed - AMD Processors are classified by their equivalent Intel processors, so an AMD XP1800+ can do tasks at the same speed as a 1800MHz Intel processor, and an AMD XP2200+ can do tasks at the same speed as a 2200MHz Intel Pentium 4. Actual speeds of AMD's are different however to what their name suggests. An XP1800+ runs at 1.533GHz, and an XP2200+ runs at only 1.8GHz. It is the quality and caching on AMD boards however, that allow... Read review

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ / 2.1 GHz review
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ / 2.1 GHz processor by neo1983

Advantages: Cheap, sufficient performance, low power consuption
Disadvantages: Core processors are faster and overclock better

...As an Amd fan I often check the performance of the new Amd products. Based on a new 65 nm architecture I really expected that this processor is better than than the X2 3800 processor but I had mixed opinions and I'm a little disappointed. The good things: Dual core decent performance at low price Small power consumption , approximate 60 w at full load and only 8w when Cool‘n’Quiet is enabled. Pretty good. Good stability, The processor is stable and cold tanks to 65 nm fabrication technology Integrated memory controller. Good price The nod so good things: The new l2 cache memory is slower than the old 90 nm fabrication technology Doesn't overclock as good as core 2 processors Smaller performance than x2 3800 in some applications and also smaller performance than the Intel e4000 in many applications...
