Manufacturer's product description
The AMD Opteron processor, enabling simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, represents the landmark introduction of the AMD64 architecture. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to run existing 32-bit applications with outstanding performance and offers customers a simplified migration path to 64-bit computing. This evolutionary processor provides a dramatic leap forward in compatibility, performance, investment protection, and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO). The AMD Opteron processor is offered in three series: the 100 series (1-way), the 200 series (1 to 2-way), and the 800 series (up to 8-way). The AMD Opteron processor provides a highly scalable architecture that delivers next-generation performance as well as a flexible upgrade path from 32- to 64-bit computing. With a single architecture designed to meet current and future business needs, the AMD Opteron processor can help to minimize the integration complexities presented by business environments today and in the future. Advantages: So many...stability, overclocks insanely & most bang for the buck. Disadvantages: None except that Intel C2Ds now yields better performance.
...Currently the leading budget overclocking AMD dualcore processor, why? simply becourse the price/performance ratio is ridicolous, let me explain in detail in the best of my ability.
(I´m assuming that the reader/s have some or even better knowledge about overclocking & the terms used in the semi-advanced school of computer knowledge, if youre a newbie thats fine too as I will try to write this review so that it´s understandable to some extent by everyone & reading is the key to learning, there are also plenty of guides on the net to satisfy your apetite ;) ) btw I´m no expert myself, merely a layman with a couple of self-built "puters" in my CV.
Initially the CPU cores run at 1,8GHz which is more than enough when surfing the www & playing music + having your system loaded with AV, Anti Spyware & various other apps + resource...

Advantages: Very Fast, Latest technology Disadvantages: Not 64 bit like AMD, heat problems
...In the second on my series of computer component reviews, I would like to offer you the Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8Ghz.
---------------------
Prescott?
---------------------
Intel have produced 5 versions of their pentium 4 range. The first was the Willamite which would only accept RD RAM and was very short lived. The next was the Northwood, which is the one which sits in most computers nowadays.
Then there's the ridiculously expensive Extreme Edition, for really silly gamers who want huge performance from their machines. And of course the P4-M for laptops. This processor is designed to give max performance on the move.
But there's a new version on the block called Prescott. This, I decided, was the chip for me.
Firstly, it's got the 800MHz front serial bus found in the later versions of the Northwood. The FSB speed makes...

Advantages: Dual Core, Low power usage* and Fast! Disadvantages: Motherboards can be costly for this!
...but pentiums can be twice the price for the same spec AMD!
In comparison to my old computer (old old p4 1.9Ghz with 1gb ram) this processor helps to wipe the floor with my old computer. The dual core feature means that in comparison i can listen to music, run an anti-virus scan, spyware and adware scan and play Hitman: Blood Money at the same time with very little noticeable shuddering or lag! Excellent. If my old computer attempted this bouts of freezing and poor gameplay would occur!
The startup speeds of the computer are very noticeable as it takes around 40secs to boot in total (after everything has loaded up) whereas my old computer would literally take atleast 4 minutes to boot everything up - no joke!
In comparison it is not the best for Gaming as some single core pentiums are but this is still damn good. Coupling this board with 1...
