AMD Sempron processors for desktop and mobile products offer best in class performance, compatibility with all the applications you need, and the reliability of AMD processors.
Advantages: Dual Core, Low power usage* and Fast! Disadvantages: Motherboards can be costly for this!
pentiums can be twice the price for the same spec AMD!
In comparison to my old computer (old old p4 1.9Ghz with 1gb ram) this processor helps to wipe the floor with my old computer. The dual core feature means that in comparison i can listen to music, run an anti-virus scan, spyware and adware scan and play Hitman: Blood Money at the same time with very little noticeable shuddering or lag! Excellent. If my old computer attempted this bouts of freezing and poor gameplay would occur!
The startup speeds of the computer are very noticeable as it takes around 40secs to boot in total (after everything has loaded up) whereas my old computer would literally take atleast 4 minutes to boot everything up - no joke!
In comparison it is not the best for Gaming as some single core pentiums are but this is still damn good. Coupling this board with 1 ...
Advantages: 64-bit future proofed, speedy, excellent value for money Disadvantages: Dual core AMD 64 CPUS are faster... but hey it would make this CPU cheaper so it's not all bad!
meant less heat would be generated, and the closer contacts would pass information more quickly.
But that's as much in common both the CPU companies had with each other, as their other methods of manufacturing and selling their CPUs differ immensely. Intel sported a 'clock-speed sells' stance, trying to clock their CPU speeds at really high frequencies i.e. 3.2GHz, 3.4GHz. This meant that the CPU ran immensely hot, drew a lot of power and Intel discovered they couldn't clock their CPUs any higher than 3.8GHz. They hit a bottleneck. The heatsink and fan provided by Intel for their CPU in their retail boxes only just manages to keep the CPU stable at just slightly above 70 degrees Celsius. A lot of people opted to use water-cooling if they wanted an Intel CPU.
AMD on the other hand chose a different path and had their CPUs run at lower ...
Advantages: quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips. Disadvantages: Expensive
The good: "True" quad-core design handles data efficiently; cheaper than competing Intel quad-core chips.
The bad: Not fast enough to justify the price savings compared to Intel's chips; next-gen Intel quad-core due out soon could further the performance gap.
The bottom line: AMD's new Phenom quad-core CPU has little to recommend it over competing chips from Intel. The Phenom is marginally less expensive, but not enough to make up for its subpar performance. Unless AMD drops prices more aggressively, it looks like Intel will maintain its grasp on the CPU market for the foreseeable future.
For raw performance, AMD's Athlon 64 X2 chips have lingered behind their Intel Core 2 Duo counterparts all year. Only aggressive pricing from AMD kept its old dual-core CPUs in systems and on store shelves. According to our testing, AMD will ...
