The AK77-600GN motherboard is AMD Socket 462 motherboard based on the ATX form featuring the VIA Apollo KT600 chipset. As high performance chipset built in the motherboard, this motherboard comes with AMD Socket 462 series Athlon, Duron and Athlon XP processor (with CPU Overheat Protection circuit to Athlon XP CPU only) and 200/266/333/400 MHz EV6 system bus. In the AGP performance, it has one AGP slot and supports AGP 8X/ 4X/ 2X mode and pipelined spilt- transaction long burst transfer up to 2.1 GB/ sec. With high bandwidth 266/533 MB/s 8-bit V-Link Host Controller, DDR400, DDR333 and DDR266 DDR RAM can be applied to this motherboard and maximum memory size can be up to 3 GB. The on- board IDE controller supports Ultra DMA 66/100/133 mode and Serial ATA 150 MB/s. On the strength of RealTek LAN controller on board, it provides 10/100 Mbps Ethernet for office and home use. Beside, this motherboard has an AC97 CODEC ALC101 chipset onboard to provide high performance and magic surround stereo sound to let people enjoy working with it. More than that, this motherboard supports USB 2.0 function with a fancy speed of up to 480 Mbps.

...Gigabyte has recently released the Athlon XP based 7VT600P-RZ motherboard powered by via kt600 chipset. This motherboard will support any Athlon XP and Duron processors with a front side bus speed of 200 MHz up to 400 MHz. There are 3 DIMM slots each having a memory capacity of up to 3 gigabytes the compatible DIMM for this kind of motherboards are PC 2100, 2700, 3200.
There is also no need to buy a separate soundcard because the mobo has onboard soundcard. There are five PCI slots for future add-ons along with 8 USB ports and 2 SATA headers. The CPU socket is flanked by tall capacitors, making it hard to install the CPU heatsink. When it comes to overclocking the Athlon XP 3200+, this motherboard has just able to up the FSB to 210 mhz mark. The AGP slot is quite high on the motherboard, you to remove the video card to be able...

Advantages: Cheap and lots of features Disadvantages: average overclocking ability
...The AOpenAK77-600 Max has a unique feature of having double bios chips, specially these days when virus attacks are common these days. With having twin bios, the second bios can store a good bios version that can be used when the first bios other one fails. It is also bundled with a Norton virus 2003, s very helpful software which can protect you from e-mail worms and viruses. This board has via kt600 chipset instead of an nforce 2. The motherboard has a little heat sink at the middle which helps to avoid overheating. All the headers of this motherboard are place on the near bottom of the motherboard. The USB 2.0 header s located at the second third PCI slots. A total of 6 USB ports are located at the back panel of this board. There is also a printer port and 2 ps/2 ports.

Advantages: solid performer Disadvantages: outperformed by Nforce2 boards
...Time to upgrade my PC in order to play Doom3...sad isn't it. I knew I wanted a mobo that supports AMD XP cpu as I wanted to keep my XP1600+ cpu a couple of more months before upgrading that. Plenty of choice and plenty of reviews about competing boards and technologies.
For various reasons I decided that, for me, a board based on the latest Via KT600 chipset would be better than an Nforce2 board, despite the Nforce2 boards having slightly better performance. I also wanted a budget board (<£70). Reading various reviews from hardware websites that I trust the choice came down to the MSI KT6 Delta. To be honest, with built in lan, sata, and raid it has too many goodies for my needs. But they are good to have for the future.
The board arrived well packaged with an instruction manual, a large picture pointing out the mobo components...
