Manufacturer's product description
The AX4SPE Max is Intel Socket 478 motherboard based on the ATX form factor featuring the Intel Springdale- PE chipset. As high performance chipset built in the motherboard, the AX4SPE Max motherboard can support Intel Socket 478 Pentium 4 and 400/ 533/ 800 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) clock. In the AGP performance, it has one AGP slot and supports AGP 8X/ 4X mode and pipelined spilt- transaction long burst transfer up to 2112 MB/ sec. According to different customer's requirements, the Intel Springdale-PE chipset memory interface supports DDR 400/333/266 RAM devices with densities of 128, 256, 512 Mb DDR RAM modules and the maximum memory size can be up to 4 GB. The onboard IDE controller supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100 mode, Serial ATA 150 Mbps and there are 6 PCI slots provided on this board. On the strength of Broadcom BCM4401 LAN controller on board, it provides 10/ 100M bps Ethernet for office and home use. Besides, the AX4SPE Max has an AC97 CODEC chipset onboard, providing high performance and magic surround stereo sound to let people enjoy working with it.

...Welcome to the fourth installment of my computer component reviews!
My motherboard is the 865PE Neo2 - P. I'm assuming that this is the same, it certainly looks the same.
MSI is a highly respected motherboard manufactorer and have incorporated the intel 865PE chipset into this fantastic motherboard.
Thanks to Rabid's suggestion, I went to the MSI section of overclockers. There I found the one he suggested, below it was this baby. For just £10 more I could have dual DDR RAM, as well as a few other minor enhancements.
This board has all the standard features, like AGP 8x, ATA 133 support and 5 PCI ports. It's also got 4 ram slots (with dual DDR ram support and supporting up to 500Mhz RAM on overclock speeds). It supports all pentium 4 chips including the new Extreme and Prescott processors. For those who don't understand that...

Advantages: Many Ram slots, 800mhz FSB supported Disadvantages: Fan on northbridge makes a lot of noise
...like a lawnmower after about 3 months of usage (before then it was unnoticable) it cost me £5 for a whopping heatsink to keep it cool with no fan.
Connectors
Here is a list of all sockets on this motherboard
1x Socket 478 processor
4x 184 pin DDR slots
4x PCI slots
1x AGP 8x
2x IDE
2x SATA
3x 3 pin fan connectors
1x Floppy IDE connector

Advantages: Quiet, Reliable, Easy to Set-Up and Install Disadvantages: Crowded and cramped layout can lead to wiring issues
...will need to check this before you buy a PSU - I didn't and had to wait a week for a 24 to 20 pin adaptor. Also, whilst it supports additional fans, you won't be able to connect them very easily as one of the interfaces is located between the case and the last PCI slot, and if you have an ADSL modem or whatever in this slot it blocks access.
Note also that this board is a compromise solution - it is extremely well built and feels very solid, and is easy to live with, but as it does not support the new PCI-E interface it may become dated quicker than you might like. For me, as an experienced high end user it's no good, but for my sister who only checks her email, it's a perfect cost effective solution (once you've got it plugged in). If you want to max out and overclock or spec up, but want to still have an Abit board for reliability reasons...
