Advantages: Will save your PC & Equitment during power problems
Disadvantages: Not easy to connect

...Good device , we get alot of fluctuations in power which might not be noticeable on TVs and Video/DVD other than a hiss. On your PC the Desktop and equitment can freeze or crash. The UPS has Three Battery terminals and 1 surge terminal. Remmember You will need to change Power cables to Kettle leads both ways ( 3 point kettle male to female ), Two leads are suppliedwith APC UPS. I connected Desktop , Monitor & WDSL Decorder. Connect USB cable , other end to UPS rear , abit like a telephone plug.( cable supplied with APC UPS). Connect modem cable if you use one Load the PowerChute Person Edition software for XP. The software should power down PC & Monitor when power problems occur. Check power level indicator , this should tell you if you have overloaded the UPS. Power level is Half way, Cool. .... ...to see the little screws on the cable end. On my old cable I had these tiny little screws and had to get a screw driver if I wanted to unplug the cable but with this model I only need to turn the end to release it. So if you have a printer which needs a cable like the APC why not spend the extra few pounds and buy this. It's very good quality and will never let you down. I couldn't have been happier with it. I'm not too big a fan of USB cables for printers... Bring back APC!... Read review

Each is used to keep a file server online, and then using the Smart Serial Cable; we can monitor the UPS via that server. The software that is included is APC PowerChute, some of the UPSs we have had included PowerChute 5-node Business Edition. This software states that it is compatible with UNIX, Microsoft Windows 3.x/95/98, Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or later, Novell NetWare 3.11 or later. The majority of these UPS’s are connected to Linux Servers, for monitoring we use apcupsd (See http://www.apcupsd.com).
