A great little film SLR system
Advantages: Small, simple, packed with many, many features, great optics from the better lenses Disadvantages: Small film format, dated AF technology
...digital use! the first Minolta RF digital cameras took the vectis lenses and the 17/3.5, a digiital lens made for thre RF, is an outstanding performer. Keep in mind many digital SLRs sensor uses the APS-C size...yes that is the same APS size area as the film.
I bought tons of Fuji 200 APS film cheap on *bay so I am well stocked. I will have fun with my vectis, taking it to family functions, wedings and trips and will get back really nice 4x5 prints ... ...image quality (in my experience, Minolta lenses are as good as Nikon and Canon lenses..blasphemy in Nikondium and Canonville, but true per most lens tests)
One day the electronics will stop working, but if the longevity of the electronics in my Minolta CLE, MD-11 and Maxxum 9000 are any indication (25-30 years and still working), it will outlast any production of APS film. A great P&S system for most uses. ...

An excellent choice
Advantages: Solid steel casing, Build Quality, Focusing Accuracy Disadvantages: Based on the form factor none!
...does that happen).
The Minolta Vectis 300 is superbly put together. It feels solid & robust & it is as I have dropped mine & seen it skidd across a crowded floor with only minor scrathes to show for it.
The Vectis 300 also has time & date stamps as an option that are very easy to turn on or off. You can also select to add captions to particular shots for instance, "Happy Birthday", or "Congratulations", but to do this you need to keep the code ... ...one of the best I have come across on a camera this size.
All in I am pleased I bought my Minolta Vectis 300.
My only gripe is that my Vectis is so good that I cannot justify buying a digital camera just yet (but I'm still saving). ...

Size isn't everything
Advantages: small, feature rich Disadvantages: not robust
...a powerful zoom. The Minolta Vectis 3000 offered this and much, much more.
This camera offers everything you could technically need as an amateur photographer. It has an impressive 3x zoom, date and title imprinting (so you can add captions such as "Holiday" just in case you forget), several flash modes to help you get the best lighting, as well mid-roll changing, so if more than one person is using the camera for example, each person can use their ... ...back in at will. And it is TINY!
This camera sounded perfect so I went ahead and bought it from Jessops online for around £150 - the cheapest price I could find (early June 2003).
After initially being impressed with the tiny-ness of it, the problems soon kicked in. I used the camera in a variety of situations - at home, out at night, at a rugby game (as a spectator!), and at the end of it all (about 2 weeks) it gave up. I wouldn't say I was rough ...

What Can't it do?
Advantages: A do anything compact Disadvantages: At the high en of the price range
This is certainly a very sophisticated camera. After owning it for 2 years and taking hundreds of photos I still feel that the cameras abilities have not been explored. The APS allows easy loading and the Vectis 40 has a facility for mid roll change, allowing different films for different conditions. The zoom facility is impressive along with the setting options. These modes include landscape, close ups, portraits(with all the usual flash options)night ... ...set the camera to prnt dates and one of the preset titles onto the back of your photos. All of these options add up to a camera that is very versatile and can take a photo of almost anything. It's not too heavy, has an element of waterproofing that allows it out in the rain, looks good and is reliable. ...

Big enough for me to get hold of
Advantages: Easy to use, easy to handle, excellent photographs Disadvantages: None
...go back to using my Minolta Vectis 30.
This camera doesn’t have as many fancy features as the Fuji but that’s how I like it. It means that it is less complicated to use and I don’t have to mess about with it – I can just point and click!
The camera itself isn’t that much bigger than the Fuji, but it feels better in my hands (ooer missus!) I find it easier to hold because of its more rounded shape and so I feel more ... ...I just have to slide the lens cover across, which switches on the camera, look through the viewfinder until I am happy with the shot and then press the shutter release button on the top. It is an APS camera, which means that it takes three different sizes of prints, the standard 6 inches by 4 inches, a larger 7 inches by 4 inches and a panoramic 10 inches by 4 inches. A small switch on the back of the camera changes the setting and the outline of ...
