Ken's Challenge - APS Film in a nutshell

Advantages: foolproof loading, mid-roll changing
Disadvantages: more expensive to develop/process

APS Film offers more versatility over traditional 35mm film, with 3 different picture formats, coming usually in 25 or 40 exposure reels. Developing and processing, particularly in panoramic mode can be more expensive than 35mm film. Index prints are standard, and negatives remain in the cartridge. They are foolproof to load, and can often be changed mid-roll. If travelling abroad, then stock up as availability in remote locations is not that good. ... more

Great pocket sized camera

Advantages: Small and good picture quality with 3 sizes available
Disadvantages: Processing of film can be pricey when compared to 35mm

I have owned one of these many years and find it ideal to carry around with me. It is lightweight and small. If you buy one make sure you also purchase a case to prevent damage to the cameras casing. It has a choice of 3 formats, panoramic, hdtv and classic. The panaoramic is the wide one ideal for landscape photography. Hdtv and classic are basically the standard picture size one is just more oblong than the other. It has anti red eye flash which is useful and a tripod socket on the base. There is a self timer which used in conjunction with the tripod socket allows self portraits to be taken. Also can be used when you have problems holding a camera steady. The battery seems to last a long time especially if the flash isnt used much. APS film comes in 2 forms either 25 exposure or 40 exposure. The are colour, black and white ...

Review of Canon IXUS FF

Small, light and easy to use

Advantages: Compact, light, easy to use, looks good
Disadvantages: Cost of APS film and developing, quality of photos

This camera was bought for me as an xmas present and its great. Number one it is so small and so light I can literally take it anywhere so I don't miss taking photos at any parties or anything. Mine is blue and silver so it looks kind of unusual and gets a lot of attention and probably also looks more expensive than the £40-50 paid for it. As far as cost goes it also comes with a case and film when you buy it! The functionality is also a definite bonus, a sturdy case also useful. Using the new APS film, this camera is easy to load, just drop the film in and it is wound on for you, and easy to use. The photo-selector is clear and functional and switcing the flash on or off is easy too. And on top of this you also get red-eye reducer and a self-timer, both of which come in very handy! ...

Review of Canon IXUS AF Compact Camera

Great for casual snaps

Advantages: cheap, disposable
Disadvantages: quite a pricey option

This camera is great for a ball, party or drunken revel as it takes quite good photos on APS film and isn't the end of the world if it gets lost. Of course, that isn't the purpose of it. For a one off it is however quite expensive, especially considering the price of APS developing and processing. The two picture formats work well, and it is cheap and cheerful, serves its purpose but if you are a regular user of these, then you are better off getting a Cannon Ixus and justing taking care of it, not to lose it or break it. It is of course practically idiot proof and the results are good considering how cheap it is. ...
